Default process priority

But that will only work with the short cut right? What about when I open a file to play in win-amp by doubling clicking?

In the Output options of Winamp, I believe under DirectSound (or one of the other default plugins), there is the process priority for Winamp's output. IIRC it is already at Above Normal or High by default -- so you have less chance of your music skipping.

There is no reason to put the entire program at high priority.

Of course, the tip is still useful for other programs 🙂

Yeah, I don't use Winamp, but Media Player Classic has an option for starting at a higher priority.

Though I don't know about the DirectSound thing.

Under file type modify "open" I think this will work:

start /abovenormal "C:\program files\winamp\winamp.exe" "%1"
