Just wondering what the default 9800 pro clock speeds are? Powerstrip picks mine up as 325/290. It did come in a 9800 NP box but it is picked up in windows / powerstrip as a 9800 Pro. Any ideas?

It usually happens with the drivers. I don't know exactly why but I think it also happens in another series, such as 9600. It doesn't make a difference in performance so you're just fine. And remenber: if you have Samsung memory you can flash it to Pro. Enjoy it, very good purchase

I paid 275 canadian shipped for it from a friend at Dice Interactive (makers of BF1942). Now, I didn't look to see the memory on it, is there any way to tell if it's samsung without looking? Also, I just set it to 380/340 in powerstrip and i got some nice lines half way through 3dmark, does this mean it won't flash?

If you're getting lines, chances are it's the NP version with Infineon RAM. as it can't go that much higher than stock speeds.

The reason you're getting a Radeon 9800 Pro in Windows is a driver issue. I have a 9800NP and with the latest Cat 3.9s it's identified as a Pro.

Well it is indeed infineon. I oc'd it from 325/290 to 380/310 and no problems. My 3dmark score only went from 15074 to 15300. Is it the AMD holding me back?

Try running 3DMark03 at both your stock and OC'ed vid speeds. You may see more of a difference. Its more video based while 01 has a lot to do with CPU. Since your CPU speed did not change thats one reason you didn't see much difference.

well if you want to spring for top end you could get an athlon64 and get a little more out of it, but i doubt it would be worth it. if your just looking for a higher 3dmark score you would be beter of with a 9800xt or a nvidia card with some of their special "optimized" drivers. ;)

Well actually it's at 10.5x219 = 2.3 stable right now. I see people with setups VERY similar to mine only with p4's that are scoring 1k-2k more. Would the AMD vs. P4 have something to do with it??

Just a quick update. At 382/315 and my score is now 16882 in '01, 5460 in '03. Far cry from the 15042. Time to keep going :)

FWIW,

I put a 9800 pro in my system last night and at stock speeds I pulled a little over 17,000 in 3DMark2001SE. This is with an XP2500+ clocked to 11x200 running 512MB PC3200.

I have the 2.8ns Samsung RAM on the 9800p so I should be ablel to clock that mother pretty good.

The cpu would have something to do with it. P4C's at 3.2ghz will score quite a bit better than an athlon at 3200+
