Deer Whistles - do they work?

A few days ago I was driving and got lucky. It was dark and rainy out and there stood Mr. Buck right along side the road. I could just tell he was going to make a run for it. I couldn't stop in time because of the rain so instead I swerved into the left lane and kept going and got back in my lane at the last possible second to avoid hitting the car coming head on at me. I hit Mr. Buck but luckily it was my back bumper and just chipped some paint. I am very lucky.

So my question is do deer whistles really work?

LMAO this reminds me of a Christmas from about 8 years ago...

my (then-gf) wife's little brother who was 6 at the time, was allowed to pick out stocking stuffers for a gift game we play at Christmas... he got everyone deer whistles for their cars!
