I came close to hitting a deer a month ago. It is funny because I was just remarking to the wife that I had never seen a deer by the house just about a week before the incident.

What do the numbers mean, as in "left 4 minus" or "left 2 plus"?

I assume direction of corner and elevation change, but whats the bearing of the numbers?

left/right: left/right turn
number: gear
plus/minus: high/low end of gear

Man, that guy had a lot of lights on his car, more then normal it looked like.

more than normal? Night rally events tend to require a LOT of lights. Nothing like not being able to see a deer.. oh wai..
but really, that STi had normal lighting for the event, it was the combo of nighttime plus the snow's reflective ability that screws with the image exposure.

I really wanna go up to Atlanta, MI for next year's SnoDrift rally... I just want to see some WRX STi action in drift rally events. Dirt or snow works for me. :)

hehe damn that sucks. After watching the video, and knowing a few people who hit deers, I have an absolute contempt for deers. I know it sucks for the deer, but I can't shake my hate for some reason. I don't want to hate deer, I really don't (Bambi damn it!!), but for some reason, I can't help it. gah.

They be the ones frontin'. They get all up in our grilles. Should we be expected to feel bad for them?
:p

Yeah, the plus/minus call is whether it's a fast or slow corner for that gear. In rallying, they say that driver has the wheel but the co-driver has the throttle.

A similar thing happened to WRC driver Petter Solberg in 2006. Except it was in Australia with a kangaroo :p

hehe, I like how the deer gets pushed ahead then hit a second time. Deer usually don't run out in front of cars like that, but when it happens there's not much you can do as the video shows.

I never hit a deer, but almost hit a Moose standing in the middle of the road in a Plymouth Reliant once. That got the adrenaline pumping.

Why does he swear like a second before he hits the deer? It's not even close to being in view.
