i suppose someone may have cared 30 years ago

I care. This is a big deal.

 why? explain to me why anyone younger than 30 years old should care?

You are showing your ignorance of history.

educate me then, why is this such "breaking news" and a big deal? I am not ignorant of history, just wondering why this is such a big deal

1. Woodward and Bernstein have neither confirmed or denied the claim
2. It really isn't that big of a deal, politicians lie all the time

This will be relevant and interesting to a very small minority of the population.

I don't care if "it's history." There is plenty of "history" out there I find far more interesting, informative, and relevant than a political scandal two generations old. Many of you don't give a rat's behind about history in other places, so don't give me that "you're ignorant" BS.

Last time I remember the word deep throat used I was told the story about a plunger.

They probably don't allow dirty stories like that here.

The whole Watergate incident is considered one of the events that pushed the American public towards political apathy. The whole "politicians lie" thing has been around for ages but Watergate took it to a whole new level. People knew politicians lie but this shook peoples belief system to the foundation.

this is big, if he is indeed the man who revealed everything. but why he first told vanity fair i will never know. probably has to do the fact that no one from that era is confirming it.

It's breaking news because so many people have been speculating who it was after 30+ years. This is a big story.

i dont know if i necessarily believe this report though. i will wait for woodward to confirm/deny it.

In 2003, Woodward and Bernstein reached an agreement to keep their Watergate papers at the University of Texas at Austin.

At the time, the pair said documents naming "Deep Throat" would be kept secure at an undisclosed location in Washington until the source's death.

Now if only Woodward & Bernstein would either confirm or deny.

If they neither confirm nor deny...

is that an automatic denial? I am wondering about that... cause if they deny it... the pressure would be on to reveal who it is... and if they confirm it, will they be covering up the real deep throat if this one is false?
