Wasn't Deep Thought the giant supercomputer that took a generation or two to compute the answer to "Life, the Universe, and Everything?"


BTW, the answer was 42 if I recall.

Actually, Deep Thought told them that perhaps they needed to build any even BIGGER supercomputer to figure out the question. That bigger computer was the earth. But alas, it was destroyed mere moments before revealing the answer (by a Vogon construcvtion ship to clear space for a hyperspace bypass).

"Yes," said Deep Thought with the air of one who suffers fools gladly, "but what actually is it?"

"Well, you know, it's just Everything..." offered Phouchg weakly.

"Exactly!" said Deep Thought. "So once you do know what the question actually is, you'll know what the answer means."
