dedicated servers

Hi

I was wanting to build a dedicated server for call of duty and counterstrike source does anyone know the
hardware you need to run the server?

Thanks Kane

uh, fast with a decent amount of fast ram.... 2.0ghz with a gig of ram should do it. I'd worry more about the connection you're putting it on than the hardware.

You're gonna need at least 3.0 Ghz, 2GB of DDR Memory, 250GB HD Space, and an x800 XT PE. That is the bare minimum!

Don't listen to him. For running dedicated game servers you do not need a 250gb hard drive OR an x800 XT PE. To give you an idea, I have a 3.0ghz xeon with 1gb ram and a 40gb HDD running 6 various HL/HL2 game servers.

IIRC correctly, the most important stats are : Connection (esp. upload speed), RAM, and CPU. Is that accurate?

You're all stupid fucktards

And you are somewhere else for a week to consider improving your forum courtesy.

For the most part, as someone did point out, the most important issue is your connection speed/bandwidth.
Those fairly old games you want to run are NOT resource hogs. And since you will be running a dedicated server in a console window instead of actually playing the game there is no need for advanced video. Any onboard video will do.

I have been running one dedicated CS server for more than 5 years.
Presently running via an Athlon 1.2 CPU, 768 MB PC2100 RAM.

If you are going to run two games servers simultaneously a gig of RAM should suffice I would say my CPU a above would handle it.
