...thinking...

Even the $5/mo account would be perfect to throw up a pic site for your family. Or a hobby clan site. Or your own classmates like reunion forum. Or a blog, etc.

Since it's a RESELLERS account you can host as many domains as you want (limited by your resources). So if you wanted to charge friends $5/mo to host their web site, you can.

Not quite, I'm around 29 currently. I'm letting a few expire this year, so I'd like to stay around 25.

With web hosting as cheap as it is, somehow I think I'll be around 45 by end of 2004.

yikes, i need to go register some more! :)

Ross, don't you have a day job somewhere? Do they know your on AT? hehe.

And btw folks, it's only a resellers account if you ask it to be. Some folks just need the one domain and a bunch o' bandwidth.

Linh,

You should receive my $30 quarterly payment ($10 x 3) sometime this week.

Count me in for $10/mo :)

I  DirectAdmin and NAC data center :)

Thank you for promptly answering my pre-sales questions :)

He's addicted to hosting ;)

Affirmative, this will be my 11th web hosting account :)

Is it that profitable for you or just a hobby?

It's profitable, otherwise it would be a very expensive "hobby" (my total web hosting bill is $350/mo).

For instance, one of my favorite reseller web hosts is UU which offers 3GB/25GB for $15.99/mo.

By targeting the local web hosting market (specifically small businesses) I am able to offer 50MB/500MB for $19.95/mo.

You can fit roughly 50 of those 50MB/500MB accounts into a 3GB/25GB resellers account.

So you do the math.

$19.95 per mo x 50 domains = $997.50 - $15.99 (my costs) = $981.51 per mo profits :)

How are you marketing your reseller service?

Probably the $5 per month plan to start. The DA control panel looks pretty cool. I'm looking at moving from dixiesys. I'm kinda tired of having to change servers every so often for one reason or another.

Linh,

Any $5/mo plans left? I might buy 3 months as a gift for someone.

I hate it whenever someone asks WHY :)

It's free, no additional charge.

Since it's a resellers account you can host unlimited domains (within reason). Let's say your brother, sister, parents or pimp wants a web site? All they have to do is regsiter a domain then contact you. You login to the DirectAdmin control panel, click create a new account enter their domain, username, password and resource allocations (disk space/bandwidth) then click create. After propogation (usually 24 hours) the web site is online and ready to roll. Think of it as you become the "middle man" (the web host) like Dixiesys.com So instead of them going to a web host, they go to you. Since you are the middle man you can offer web hosting accounts for free or charge whatever you want. They don't know that you only pay $10/mo for your share of the dedicated server. Offer small 100MB/1000MB web hosting accounts for $10/mo ... get 10 clients x $10 = $100/mo and you only pay $10/mo. The difference of $90 per month is your profit.

Free DNS name servers (ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com) gives you the appearance that you own your own web servers. Best of all you will never forget them since they mirror your domain.

Last but not least because I f* said so :)

yes sir!!

but you say its at no additional charge? how can that be? most of the companies i've seen charge more for reseller accounts. and i can't see why they'd charge the same- i mean think about it. why should they let hteir users make the profit instead of themselves?

i'm not starting an argument, i'm just a little bit of a n00b when it comes to this, as you've probably guessed.

for e.g. i own my own web host company. i create users, like hell i'm going to allow them to create users themselves, cause they'll end up digging into my customer base potential and i won't make the profit. i could however charge people more if they want to get reseller accounts, right?

1) How is it so cheap?

Simply because you're not purchasing a resellers account from a traditional web host who is in the market to earn a profit and has overhead. lnguyen is generous enough to share his dedicated web host server AT COST (no markup). Normally reseller accounts do cost more than regular web hosting accounts do.

2) Some web hosts such as dathorn.com and HTTPme.com ONLY offer reseller web hosting accounts because that's what they specialize in. Personally in my local web hosting venture I only offer virtual web hosting accounts, not reseller accounts (they can be a nightmare tech support wise).

Do you have AIM? What's your SN?

ok this discussion was because of a miscommunication on our parts, or a misunderstanding on mine. when you said reseller hosting is the same price, you were SPECIFICALLY talking of inguyen's offer, NOT generally speaking. thats where my confusion lay- cause i thought you meant GENERALLY its the same price, which isn't the case from my expeirence.

You are correct, sorry for the confusion.

Linh is offering reseller web hosting for the same price, traditional web hosts usually charge more for reseller access.
