Bootvis was removed from the MS download area long ago beause it can cause some systems to break. I've seen it on one of mine, everytime bootvis ran a couple drivers would fail after it made it's changes. Seems MS never fixed the issue, just pulled it.

Not to say don't use it, but just bear in mind your mileage may vary.

for me it's like 20 seconds from the end of POST to the Windows login screen. After typing the password it take about 5-6 seconds to get to the desktop, although I think some things may still be loading even after I get control of the desktop. btw, I have raid-0 2x160GB 7200rpm sata drives (seagate). Linux take 45 seconds to load from end of POST to login screen (gdm), but it's installed on a single 160GB 7200rpm. But I have a lot of services in Linux, like NFS, Samba, VPN, SSH, MySQL, firewall and all the ususal linux daemons.

I just did a MS bootvis run on my G/F's sys running XP-SP2, it shaved about 15 secs off her boot time, heh, had to do HER sys first, heh, just in-case bootvis frigged things up. All appears to be running just fine, guess I will be getting supper cooked for me tonight.

Personally i just hibernate (using swsusp2 specifically) my notebook, it restores all of my apps and filesystem cache in like ~20s.
