I know this is possible.. Ive reached the point where Im currently running about 26 background programs/processes, and quite frankly- it's irritating me...
Using Win2kPro, I cant recall how to decrease the ammount of programs starting up on start-up... Any help on this matter will be appreciated...

Delete unnecessary stuff out of your startup group under programs in the start menu. Also, open regedit (in start > run), and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Run. Check for unnecessary programs there. Also, while in regedit, check HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Run.

By what measurement do you consider 26 too many?

Looking at my work Linux machine I have 85 total processes, only ~10 of which are interactive with my login.
Looking at the my Win2K workstation I have 29 total processes, only 4 of which are interactive with my login.

Good point. My Win2k box has 36 processes, 90% of which are sitting idle and at least 50% of them consume a good deal less than 1MB of RAM each. A lot of those processes are necessary system services, which you can not kill if you want your system to continue running properly.

Nothinman & jliechty...
Oh ok, I just thought 26 seemed a little excessive.... Im trying everything in my power to keep my processor from working hard... I know my system can handle the load, I just get a little worried when I see my comp temperature reach the 47 degree mark while playing games...
I have the propper cooling, and at most times I usually even leave the side panel off the case for gaming..

Thank you both for your time responding...

A processor is designed to run at 100%. And if the processes are alive, but sleeping they're not using any CPU time, just memory and/or disk space.

Leaving the case off can sometimes cause problems because it f's with the air flow, if you have the fans setup well leaving the case on shouldn't raise the temperature. If you're scared of overheating, you need better cooling.

fer' sure . if it's setup right everything will be cooler with the sides on . in with the good air , out with the bad.
good luck
