Decling a job offer and then asking for it back?

I recently declined a job offer a week ago and I'm having regrets. I wasn't too sure about relocating to another city due to personal reasons but emailed HR I did not want to pursue the position cause I was pursuing something else. My real personal reason was because of a relationship and my mom was ill in the hospital at the time and I was going through a tough time. Would it be silly of me to explain to the company that it was personal family reasons I declined but now everything is better I change my mind? HR did email me and said let them know if there's anything they can do to change my mind..

What do you have to lose? Worst case they say no.

You might even be able to ask for a slightly higher salary and then accept.

You can try but I wouldn't be too hopeful. It looks pretty unprofessional and its likely that after you declined they offered the job to their second choice. Then again, if the like you they may let you come back.

If you want the job, give it a shot. You've got nothing to lose.

Well I applied pretty early and I just saw them relist the position on a job site so don't think they've interviewed too many candidates if any so far

Explain your reasoning to them, just assure them that your current decision is solid and that you won't flipflop again.

yeah don't go into too much detail with the mom reason or they'd probably think you came up with that after failing to make your "1st choice". "Family issues" or the like would be better.

Yep, I'd probably go with something similar to 'I initially declined due to family matter, which is no longer an issue' or something like that.

Why should the company feel you would not change your mind again? They have already started on the next candidate on the list. Try, but do not get hopes up.

Is it a one of a kind position? Were there other candidates?
What's the likelihood that they hired the next best person already?

I did that recently and it worked out ok. Just be professional when you ask. If they say no, you haven't lost anything.
