I am really frustrated right now. I know I said I'd be getting a GTX 680, but I just cannot wait any longer. Been waiting since December and enough is enough I think. I want to know what graphics card to get. I don't care about all the textures and crud, because I probably won't notice it anyway (I could not tell the difference between no AA and 4x AA). I just want high-ish/max-ish settings with smooth framerates. My budget is under $500.

If anyone can give me some ideas, I will truly appreciate it.
 
680 will be plenty available soon enough, just keep your eyes on the hot deals forum. Your settings requirements are just like mine so you definitely don't need much, but if you're going to spend $500 go 680.

The 7970 or the 680, whichever one is cheaper where you live. The cards are equal (7970 OCed from CCC = 680 OC). Here in Romania the 680 is equal/more expensive compared to the 7970.
 
if you can't wait your only options for fastest single GPU depending on what game you play would be the 7950 (now is definitely at least $50 overpriced) or GTX580 (finally starting to see some price cuts come into play here and dip below the $400 mark: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127567)

the 7970 should be priced below $500 but it currently isn't, and I'd wager we see the 680s filter in and out of stock at least a couple times before we see the 7970 get a price cut, so while the 7970 is a good card you'd still have to wait unless you're willing to bump up your budget
 
I really am not able to wait till mid-April for the Video Card. It's just not possible for me to wait any longer for anything.
 
I am considering getting a used 6xxx or 5xx series card for now, then getting the GTX 680 when everything stabilizes. Any ideas for deals on a used 5xx or 6xxx series card?

Well I don't know what region you live in... but Tigerdirect was showing the PNY GTX 680 as "in stock" not long ago. Could have changed by now.

For me, it's hard to justify spending without waiting for the April/May releases from Nvidia. The 680 handles tessellation better, has GPU Boost, PhysX and new FXAA enhancements. I'd hope that the lower tier models do as well (I'm sure they do). That's why it's hard for me to pony up anything right now. I just have a feeling I'd regret it.

Good luck to you though. Remember, tessellation is going to get more and more important. For that reason alone, I'd stick with the newest line of cards from AMD & the 680 from Nv.

Honestly, I am done playing the waiting game. Atleast this way I will be able to atleast enjoy my PC.
