My dad just sprung a question on me that is forcing me to make a tough decision.

My birthday is coming up and he is willing to help me pay for a gun at Cabelas. It'll be approximately $270 that he can help me with. So I need to decide what gun I want.

So basically right now I am looking at a Springfield GI Model 1911 or a Ruger Vaquero in .45 Colt because I know they have these in stock as of right now and they fit my price range. I'd rather have the Mil Spec version of the 1911 but they don't have any in stock and I need to decide by Sunday because he ahs some special deal that he is using to help pay his end.

The 1911 is $449, about $205 after tax and my dad's portion.
The Vaquero is $499, about $257 after tax and my dad's portion.

I was thinking about a rifle too, but I'd probably want a large bore lever action rifle and haven't really looked into those much. I'm more of a pistol guy though.

Can you guys think of any other guns that might be similar to what I'm looking for and in the $450-500 price range?

I guess I could always wait until we get there and see what they have too, but if they don't have anything else and someone buys the ones I was looking at above, I'm screwed.

You might want to look at an Uberti Cattleman SA revolver, but the New Vaquero is hard to beat for SAs. If you raised your target budget to $650, that should get you a Taurus Raging Bull in .454 Casull (also able to chamber .45 Colt), which is the gun I've got my sights on, so to speak...

An official Red Ryder carbine action two-hundred shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time.

Personally, I wouldn't buy the SA GI model as it comes with the tiny ass GI sights. If I was buying a real GI issue 1911 I wouldn't mind.

With those two options I'd be more interested in lever guns. Maybe a nice Marlin 30-30 or 45-70.

requirements are a pain, but you won't find a better deal. I got in one day before they cut off on field grade greeks.

CMP is in the middle of the great Carbine frenzy so that is likely slowing things down a bit.

The Rack grades are a good deal still even if you replace the barrel.

Yeah, I'd prolly get a woodless dane now if I didn't get in on the field grades. But any garand should be a decent shooter.
