So I was another that jumped on the FX-55 bargin hunt.

Was wondering what cooler would be the best tho. I am a heavy gamer at times, mostly WOW and FPS games for hours on end. One day, I do hope to OC this chip as well.

Deciding between:

  • Zalman's CNPS9500
    Artic Freezer Pro64 or
    Thermalright Ultra 120

I would really prefer something on the quiter side as my current Athlon PC sounds like an aircraft.

Thanks for your decisions!
Added Poll cause it's that time of year.

If none of the above...what else, why?

Zalman's CNPS9500 -- don't care for flower fans!
Artic Freezer Pro64 -- cheap as dirt, and about as attractive...
Thermalright Ultra 120 -- book it! 😉

Any will keep your system cool and allow some overclocking. Can't really go "wrong" with any of them.

In order of my personal preferance:

1) The Freezer is a good all around cooler for the $$ - Simple and good budget choice. Leaves a few more $$ around for other options if on a budget.

2) U-120 will give you the greatest flexibility as you can choose your fan. (or even underclock run fanless in the future)

3) The Zalman both works well and it's pretty. If you have a nice window it looks pretty damn cool. There's also the beefier 9700 version.

They are all good setups for overclocking and a proper install with the right amount of good thermal compound with good case airflow will matter much more then which of the above three you get. That's why the Freezer64 gets my vote.
