Intel Extreme... I have missed every good game in the past 3 years.
So my decision : 9700 Pro for $100-125 and later I'll upgrade to a 6600GT/6800Vanilla in 2-3 Months.

Thanks again everyone.
I'm not going socket 939!
Now the quest is on to get all the parts...

read on newegg, it seems like msi changed the 9800pro they were selling and now the one that is sold looks like a regular one without that massive hsf. some had r350 cores, i believe

i purchased a sapphire one from newegg in september and got r360 core with samsung memory.

I opted for system #3. I just think the 64bit is a better deal and the mobile's won't dish out the performance unless you're a hardcore overclocker. As for the video card, I think that one you have now will suffice as long as you don't play Half-Life 2 or other high-end games on high graphics settings (should run better than fine in 800x600). Also, you could easily upgrade your graphics card in a month or two when the prices drop a little bit. ( or will they, i don't know).

Since you are doing some video editing as well, here is an Intel alternative as well. Link.
Game wise it would be better than an athlon XP, with 6600gt, but not as good as an A64 with the same video card, and should be better for the video editing stuff than the athlon xp as well. Price assumes you are gonna sell the Corsair XMS, to cover cost of the 1gig of corsair value select.

EDIT: Opps, forgot the hard drive, never mind, can't get an a comparible Intel sytem in your budget, but thought I would try.

Whoops, I knew I forgot something.

I really think you should aim for an Athlon 64 setup; the biggest expenditure is the 6600GT, so maybe you can rethink the GFX card, or find a better deal.

Go for A64. OC'ing a mobile 2500+ barton to 3200+ is so 6 months ago, and the prices haven't dropped at all since then :)

If you go A64 now, and you have some cash to upgrade your processor later, then you won't have to remove your motherboard and reinstall your OS and everything; you can just drop in the new processor and continue using your PC.

#5. Wait a month and get that extra $120 and you can get a s939 PCIe system!

s939 A64 3000+ = $155.90 shippedLINK
Abit AX8 Via K8T890 PCIe = $145 shippedLINK
PCIe 6600GT = $194.50 shipped :D LINK
FS/FT Forum Hard drive = $40
Antec case w/ 380W psu = $98
Onboard sound & stock HSF = FREE!

Total = $633.40

Budget in a month = $620. Thats ok, since you don't need your old mobo/cpu, you can just sell that and more than make up for the difference. This system will be of more value than a s754 A64 or socketA system restricted to AGP.
