Decided to drop a Zalman VF700 Cu on my AGP 6600GT, anyone else done this?

I currently idle at high 50s-low 60's (well, it is summer here), load in the high 80s (and i reseated my stock hsf with AS5 a while back, which saw a small but noticeable improvement, i was loading in the 90s before).

Got a bit of cash so i think a VF700 Cu is in order :D

(i know this is a repo xy but i didn't get anyone who had done it last time, and i actually have the cash to do it this time )

That is the best choice imo if you wanna cool your vga card, but I'm not a fan of spending $30+ on a $120 card. But those temps are really high, and that would be a good idea if you dont mind putting it on a card like that.

I'm actually selling my 6800nu, I have it on ebay now, let me know if your interested. It would go really well with that cooler, since it has the extra working pipes, it just overheats too much if you enable them. Like your card, it idle's low 50's and loads high 70's and putting that on my card would prob drop temps dramatically, even with it overclocked and unlocked.

Oh yeah it's AGP...

Let me know.

I dropped 10 on load. I was pushing 70. Now it won't go above 60, and that is with the inluded thermal grease. When I move in a couple of months, I'm putting some as5 on there. And it cools down waaaay faster.
Easy install, just take your sweet time.
BFG 6800GS AGP at the their stock 370/1050.

I don't have a whole lot of cash to blow, and i'm sick of my 6600GT running so hawt ;) Besides, i should be able to carry it over to another card shouldn't i, if i keep the stock hsf to put back on it when i sell it...

Yeah the great thing about the Zalman VF700 is it can be used on most video cards, cards 2 years ago like Radeon 9800, x8xx and x18xx series to Geforce 6 and 7 series, and most likely can be reused in future on r600 and G71.

Unlike Artic Cooling Silencer which has a specific cooler for different Geforce series and another cooler for ATI cards so harder to take out cooler and reuse on future gpus.

Yup, dropped my wife's AGP 6600GT about 10c also. Some things to think about:

- If it doesn't already have an HSI heatsink installed, you'll have to buy one:
http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/view.asp?idx=162&code=013

However, most AGP 6600GTs do, so you probably don't have to worry about it.

- 99% of the time you won't be able to use the ramsinks on the AGP version. Won't make too much difference, maybe 10mhz memory difference in overclocking. Just hold onto them so you'll have them handy if/when you switch cards.

I was planning on just removing the existing one and putting some AS5 on the HSI chip then reapplying it as it looks identical to that...

Did you go for the AlCu or the Cu? I think i'll get the Cu as it's only a few bucks more...

AlCu on the 6600GT, Cu on the 6800NU. The weight to temperature (and price) difference wasn't enough for me to put a Cu on the 6600GT. The 6800NU is XFX and has one of those metal stabilizing bars on it so didn't worry too much about the weight.

But, up to you. There's only about a 2-3c difference between the two, but the copper...well, it's copper! Looks much better fo sho.

I put one on my old 9800np. Stock cooler let me do 400/340, with the zalman I got it up to 480/375 with the included ram sinks. that was with AS5.

Well i'm glad to see all these positive reviews :)

I'm already getting 575/1145 out of my AGP SParkle 6600GT but i'd be very happy with any speed increase ;)

This is in my office rig -the one that can never be down - so I don't overclock but I tested it for you at 5volts fan I get 598/1050 OC. These Zalmans obviously have about 10x the surface area of stock so it's to be expected the temps will stay much much lower= more OC:)

and even at 12v I can't hear it over all the other crap in my computer room. This is the AlCu version, I guess you got the Cu version? You'll get a couple of more C out of it that way, you'll prolly get over 600 on it.

If you're still thinking about the card cooler, I recently went from the VF700cu to a thermalright V1 ultra (7800gt). I now get ~12 degrees lower on load with the V1 ultra compared to the VF700cu. It is a bit more $$, and a sob to install (I needed longer screws) but overall I love it. The VF700cu was good, but this bad boy is great.
