After many reviews between the Kodak DC240/DC280, Canon S10, Fuji 2400Z, and Olympus 490Z I think I'll get the Olympus 490Z. As you cann see those are all under $400 and all except DC240 are 2+ megapixel if I remember right. Now I'm looking most into the Olmypus for several reason:
1)Bigger LCD than my previous pick, Fuji 2400. The Fuji also supposedly had a hard to read LCD, which wouldn't be a problem for me but my dad wants to use this camera and he doesn't have very good eyes.
2)Movies! Sure there isn't sound but I didn't expect any to be able to take quick movies at this price range.
3)Manual features. In case my dad doesn't want to use auto mode the Olympus seems to have some good manual features.
Problems with 490Z:
1)NO USB! Why couldn't they add it?? Sure you can buy the card reader but the cheapest price I found was $48! Too much. While the serial connection is slow, I'd rather wait a couple extra minutes then spend $48 on a USB card reader.
2)Batteries. It comes with high power batteries but they aren't rechargable so I'll have to pick up some NiMh rechargables.
Now my question: It says that it can take movies at HQ (320x240) for 15 seconds on the included 8mb SM card and 60 seconds at LQ (160x140 or whatever). I got a 32mb SM card already for a Creative NOMAD so will I be able to take movies for 60 seconds on high quality since the 32mb is 4x the size of the 8mb one? Thinking about it, it seems like of course it would but nowhere in any reviews did it mention that.
Does this seem like the best choice. Also, anyone find it cheaper than $382+shipping? Thanks for any input.
