Decided on Athlon 64, now so confuse on the Motherboard....

there is nforce.. there is VIA...

and worst, Athlon 64 seems to have different sockets.

can someone bring me to light and give me some recommendation.

I do play games and does video editing and don't think i would upgrade in 2 years period.

First of all whats your budget?

A socket 939 system would be "high perf" and socket 734 "mid-high perf" all of them are really high performers. reason i say high performance for the socket 939 is that socket 939 is more expensive and have dual channel ram capabillities. if going socket 939 i would reccomend a 3500+ along with a nFORCE 3 mobo. Same chipset for socket 754.

For socket 754 i would go with a 3000+ or a 3200+.

It all depends on your budget and your needs. but i've read that socket 939 cpus does video encoding just as good as a P4 nowadays.

Asus K8V SE is good I hear. People are raving about the MSI Neo Plats.

I'm going with a Chaintech VNF3-250.

On a side note..

do you guys know if ADA3200AXBOX is a CG?

do you guys think that the 3200+ is worth 45 bucks more than the 3000+?

Well, its been a while since i get myself uptodate to tech news...

Actually, I am consider Intel b4 and then a while back, decided on the 64.

Does the 754 socket support dual channel ram like the Intel Chipset does?

There was a link to a story about Athlon64 chipsets on HardOCP yesterday...they tested basically the 3 chipsets and came to the conclusion that there is very little performance difference between them. The recommendation was to save as much as you can on the motherboard and invest in the video card, if that's what you're going to be using the system for.

theres:
nvidia nforce3, via k8t800(pro), and sis 755

the nforce and the sis have agp/pci locks. the via doesnt.

just read some reviews from the major sites and you should have it all figured out in no time.

i'm taking my chances with the asus k8n-e. its a nforce 3 mobo but word is it doesn't overclock very well. by the time i buy the board (mid august probably) they should have a bios fix for the 220 wall i hope.

@this point I'd wait for the DFI if looking to do some real overclocking.

Yeah I'd agree, that new DFI Infinity board for Socket 754 looks like it's going to be amazing. Some guy got his HTT to 425 on the reference board sent to him

425HTT??!!!!!!!!????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! geear me one er them

Alright, I am not going to overclock.

Can someone explain to me what is the difference between the 754 and the 939?

Basically, what I heard is the newest nforce and via, the difference is if u are not overclocking, nforce has more features than via such as built in Firewire 2.0 and so on.

And I would really hate it to go without Dual Channel Memory. So does 754 really doesn't support dual channel? or the performance is really ignorable with the dual channel? (This was the sole reason i choose intel board)

the 939 is the newest and greatest amd standard. the biggest difference is dual channel.

754 does NOT support dual channel.

the performance right now is close to neglible, 3-4% difference between the 754 3400+ and the 939 3500+ especially for the price...

I'd go with Socket 754 hands down right now... simply because of cost.

the 939 is not worth the added cost.

I am probably going to pick-up an A64 3200+ and I've already got my Soltek K8AN2E-GR on order.
I'm holding off for a while on the good stuff (dual Opteron) until the prices come to less than insane levels 🙂
