Decent shirts/pants on the cheap

I've been going to a lot of interviews lately, and I have to dress up for all my presentations, and I realized that my wardrobe is lacking in decent clothes, as far as those go. Where's a good place for a college kid to get some cheap, nice dress shirts and pants? Shoes...ties...etc. All the good stuff.

Macy's during a sale. They're real desperate now so things are on sale pretty much all the time.

Or find out when the next Brooks Brothers shirt sale is and go nuts.

This. Also, if you open a store card account with them they will throw a never-ending stream of coupons at you, which can often be combined with their sale prices. They'll also send you notice of men's wear sales.

I never go to those expensive ass places. You guys say those are cheap places but damn I've been to those places and they are expensive as hell. Find an outlet near you and go there. I get nice slacks and shirts for extremely cheap at the local outlet around here. Also try a swapmeet if you really don't want to spend money. People buy tons of clothes at super cheap prices and sell brand new "knock-off" clothes at swapmeets.

I hit up JC Penny's after I graduated to get enough stuff in my closet to wear at work. I went during a sale and had coupons, I spent less than $300 for a closet full of dress shirts and pants. I'm about 18 months into my job now and all I've needed to buy since I've started was some more socks.

I'm liking the Macy's stuff I see on their site, ahaha.

What's a decent pair of dress shoes that I could pull off with anything really? I think they all look ugly as sin.

Go to a banana republic outlet
they have pants that normally cost $80, but at the outlet you can buy all sorts of style for $25 or so
great deal, I bought 3 last week

Any black, patent leather shoes from an Italian company.

i wear these. i got them at macy's for $70. typically i look for alfani shoes when i'm at macy's. they are usually a decent compromise between style, quality and price. i have two other pairs of alfani shoes but i got tired of lacing them up in the mornings (while getting two kids ready and off to school) and they started to fall apart after a couple of years. yes, years.

if you get a macy's card you can usually get an extra 10%-15% off the first purchase.

for slacks i look for dockers wrinkle free (not khakis). on sale they are about $30 a pair but worth it for not having to iron them in the morning.

for shirts i splurge and go with brooks brothers non-iron/wrinkle-free shirts. they are expensive at 3 for $150 during their best sales but believe me they are worth it. they are the only shirt i've ever purchased that are actually non-iron (as long as you hang them on a hanger as soon as you take them out of the dryer; and you could really just run them in the dryer again to remove any wrinkles acquired from sitting all rolled up in the dryer). it is literally unbelievable how good they look out of the dryer. they still have the creases and everything. make sure you wash them on a gentler setting as mine have started to fray from being put in the wash with jeans and khakis on the normal setting. this is after about 50 washes mind you.

Go to thrift shops. That won't work for "right now", but if you go every week for a year, you can pick up a high end wardrobe for next to nothing. you need a good eye for quality, as there's a ton of crap amongst the gems, but if you know what you're looking for you can walk quickly up and down the isles and pick out the good stuff at a glance.

Kohls is cheap as hell and has nice stuff for interviews.

Express has very nice dress shirts that are usually buy 1 get one half off + $30 off $75 coupons that makes it 45 for 2 shirts. Their pants are like freakin 100 bucks though... ridiculous. Kohls for pants.

Goodwill or other used clothes store. You find name brands and designer clothes all the time.

This. Find some sort of used clothing place in an upscale neighborhood. Cheapest ever, and fine for your purpose.
