Decent Printer? NON EPSON

After returning my 4th Epson 87x series in a year with clogged heads, I'm looking for a decent color printer. I don't need photo quality as I have found nearly all home prints fade. Just a decent workhorse for greeting cards and the like. Prefereably on ewith replaceable heads (as opposed to the epson).

BTW, Epson CSRs told me to clean...get this.. 25 times in a row to unclog the heads--25 times in a row EMPTIES both the black and color carts at a cost of $40+. Nice system.

I'm liking my HP842C. I don't do photos so I could care less as well, blacks are real nice (though not as perfect as my Lexmark, but I'll never buy another lexmark).

If 100 bucks is your range, it works pretty well for it.

<< but I'll never buy another lexmark >>

Shudder... what's your cause for this? I was thinking of buying a new printer to replace my aging Epson Stylus Pro (before they started putting #'s to the models), and so far, the Lexmark was my first choice.

BUy a refurbished Canon BJC6000. It is refurbished by Canon, comes with a 90 day warranty, New Cartridges and heads, upto date software, and you can get one for $60. Additionally the Canons have great print quality and you can use aftermarket cartridges which sell for as little as $3.99 ea. This particular Canon also has seperate color cartridges so you only have to replace the one that is empty. Or if you only want to use OEM cartridges you can just buy another printer cheaper than you can the catridges.

I like the Canons that I have too. Alot of people love their HPs, but I think they are a company that expects you to pay a premium for their name (like ASUS and SONY) so I don't like them. Lexmarks seem like a mixed bag as do Epsons. The choice, of course, is up to you!

I like HP. The text is very nice. Cartridges can be had at decent prices. A friend has a lexmark and the ink smears (no matter how long it has been left to dry, it rubs). I've heard bad things about canon.

You can pick up an 842c from Staples right now for $70 shipped after tax w/rebate if you know what you're doing 🙂

I would also recommend checking out Lexmark, HP and Cannon those are the other major players.

Personally I have had nothing but success with Epsons, maybe consider a different model? Here's some CNET.com reviews.

I have a HP 950C, works perfectly. Everytime you replace the cartridge, it also replaces the print head. It comes with PhotoRE III technology which makes the color print out quite impressive. Plus, it's not expensive.
