Decent no rebate 4gb DDR2 deal $80

Maybe worth holding out for a little longer. DDR2 chip prices have been trending downward. I look at it almost religiously on dramexchange.

I doubt it'll be given away like it was months ago but I'll be happy to see 4gb from 40 to 50.

I agree. Worst time to pick up DDR2 is right now.

Though, if you need it, you need it...
From what I understand ddr2 production has pretty much halted and been switched to ddr3. Wouldn't this keep ddr2 prices around where they are now, rather than dropping? Or has the price been artificially inflated for the holiday season so that it can go on "sale" for large sums?
I have a system ordered and on the way minus the ram...I'm thinking about buying used but if the prices do come down I wouldn't mind using a few cheap 512 sticks until I purchase a proper set.

I'm pretty sure I bought 4GB of DDR2 in February of this year for about half that price. WTF happened?
Try a quarter of this price AR.

Granted it was for the cheaper XMS2, but still. Now I know why everyone was hoarding it back then. They could make a killing on Fleabay.

Who told you that?

Used is one way to go...

Not sure how much 512MB stick would go for though. I sold off my excess Crucial 4GB kits just recently at $50 a set. Bought them between $10~20 around Dec/Jan. Not sure what the prices will settle to but between fourty and fifty dollars sounds reasonable.

Seeing these prices make me feel better about buying 2gb Crucial PC8000 for $200 - $100 rebate back then. I was crying everyday when 4gb was going for $40.

a bit off topic, but would it make sense to ebay (or use FS forum for that matter) DDR2 platform now and jump on a now-more-competitively-priced i5/DDR3 setup?

I actually have nothing to back that up. I read it on either slickdeals or fatwallet, can't remember, but someone claimed that ddr2 production has been switched to ddr3. I suppose I should verify something like that rather than spreading rumours.

As for used sticks there's some guy on my local craigslist with some 512 sticks for 5 bucks a pop. If ddr2 does come down in the future, I can live with 1 gig for a while...if not, I'll have to bit the bullet.

Yup it sure would.

I think this depends on your budget. I considered going with a ddr3 platform, but I found a combo 785g motherboard and x2 240 at newegg for $103...I also managed to get cash back on that. A ddr3 board would have cost me much more, and while ddr2 prices are sky high, they're not much worse than ddr3 (at least for now). For me, a ddr2 system was the cheaper option.

e: yeah I got this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231122

For $39.99 at the beginning of February.

frys.com had 4gb of ddr2-800 cl6 and desktop and laptop for $10 after rebate at one point during the march stock market lows.

we probably will never get it for $10 again. most of the reason for that was every company sold off its inventory to have cash on hand, and qimonda went bankrupt so their liquidation pushed prices down.

but yeah $10 after rebate for 4gb was nice.

The exact memory I bought has doubled since Feb of this year. I had been planning on buying more, but not now. I will just keep my 4gb and be happy until I change platforms.
