Decent Laser Jet Printer for 130$ After MIR's.

According to CNET this is supposed to be a pretty good Laser Jet Printer. Right now Bestbuy has it for 199.99 so just use a 10% off coupon and there's a 20$ MIR and a 30 MIR and it's 130+ tax.

here's the review

FYI - this appears to be a windows GDI printer only, while the lower model, ML-1250 is a PCL printer. Also, the printer is NOT upgradable -- you are stuck with the 8MB of RAM is ships with. Might not be a big deal for most ppl, but good to know.

This deal can be even hotter with an AMEX BVG to Amazon.com who sells it for $144.42.

So:

$199
-10%
-$34.68 (Amex BVG $179.10 to Amazon.com $144.42)
-$20 MIR
-$30 MIR
-----------
$94.42 + tax and FREE shipping

I guess you wouldn't bother using the 10% off if you were going to use the AMEX BVG anyway.

Good point 😉

So:

$199.99
-$55.57 (Amex BVG $199.99 to Amazon.com $144.42)
-$20 MIR
-$30 MIR
-----------
$94.42 + tax and FREE shipping

Edit: Free shipping too

So, this printer cannot be connected to a router printer server correct?

I'm using a HP LaserJet 6L on a Pentium that is connected via a LinkSys Wireless router 4 port and any machine on the LAN can print on it. So why would it matter if it can or can't.

Yeah, I'd like to be able to connect it to my router and not have to deal with Windows File/Printer Sharing.

where can teh 10% bestbuy coupon be found?

Taxes are almost eating one rebate entirely. It's $17 in taxes for me in WA state! 🙁

I don't think so, from CNET's review ...

The printer supports Windows 95 and up; numerous flavors of Linux, including Red Hat, Caldera Open Linux, Debian, and more; and Macintosh OS 8.0 or later.

A GDI printer wouldnt be able to do Mac and definitely not Linux.

My dad has this printer in his office.....it's setup on a external jet direct card.

It warms up real fast....first page in about 10-12 seconds.....after that, it's about 14ppm. We set it to enter power save mode after 45mins of inactivity.

Quality is top notch. Did a couple of solid black prints, looks real nice.

Thanks, just what I wanted to know. 🙂

Forgot to mention that OEM toner isn't cheap, but what OEM cart's are?

Got a two pack refil kit from Office Depot (or Max...can't remmeber). Undo a screw on the side, pour in the toner and yer good to go.

Figure refil 2x, replace with OEM cart and Drum kit if needed (figure it'll be around 15K pages).

<Read Samsung's specs -- they state it's GDI.<

Huumm. You're right, the specs do say it's GDI. The specs in the .pdf file list 5 printers - 2 GDI (including the 1430) and 3 PCL. In the "fonts" spec for the PCL printers they list the number of fonts built in. For the GDI printers they specify the fonts as "Windows fonts". Wonder how it uses Windows fonts on Mac and Linux systems? (the specs do say the 1430 can be used on Mac and Linux.)

i just picked up this printer from local bestbuy.

Good quality build, not very big in size. WinXP didn't have any native drivers, so I had to use the CDROM that came with it. Less than 60 secs to install the software and everything was ready to go. Took me longer to plug in the AC cord 😉

I printed off a bunch of pages and the output looks great! Once it goes into sleep mode, it is dead silent. I highly recommend this printer.

Now i just have to put faith in the $50 in rebates and the Amex BVG!

Seems like amazon incresead the price to $149 now.. Anyone has a saved page of the price at $144 ?? Please PM it to me.. Thanks a lot..
