Decent for Office, Facebook, General Surfing?

It's ok.

I prefer Intel CPU's because they are faster and run cooler. That only has a 90 day warranty.

You can can catch a i5 or i3 Dell Inspiron on sale for $400 (or less at Dell Outlet) that have a 1 year warranty.

A friend just needs and every day use computer, not for gaming or high end applications, how would this do?

i bought a Dell Inspiron 15 inch similar to this unit and it works very well for the tasks you describe. What helped the performance of mine was changing the hard drive to an SSD. This really imnproved the boot up time and overall speed of the machine. And for not too much money to add the SSD.

Thanks, it's for an elementary school teacher to use...

Pretty much anything will do. As long as you steer clear of anything Atom* and Brazos/Kabini based.

The key feature is an SSD. It helps tremendously with day-to-day usability. But its easy to add an after market one if needed.

*This includes several varieties of Pentium/Celeron CPUs. Generally Pentium/Celeron models beginning with an N should be avoided.

Chromebook would tick *all your boxes and they simply don't deal with OS B.S.

* Using office online.

So you can do OFFICE or Open Office on a chromebook...?

I just read where they will be able to use Android apps soon - would this be a replacement for my tablet?
