Hi can anyone recommend a decent Windows based download manager...I'm just about sick to the back teeth with Leechget which for no apparent reason decides to stop downloading after a few hours.

Cheers,

I'm on dialup and haven't had any problems with GetRight. It supports automatic downloading of queues, reconnectiing, hang-ups when done, redial when disconnected, scheduled downloads, etc. It also supports segmented downloading if you have the bandwidth to spare.

I've tried Getright in the past and always remembered it was a little bloated, I might need to take another look at it again. No open source or freeware options?

Yeah I also have DAP and it works perfectly. I love the "Download All" feature! :D

Flashget comes w/ spyware (aureate/radiate). NetAnts, DAP & Fresh Download are my suggestions.

Ive heard that as well. Might be something worth checking into before you install it.

I downloaded Star Downloader last night and even though I only played with it for 15 minutes or so it looks pretty promising. I'll try Fresh Downloader tonight if I get a chance. I want to stick with freeware where possible.

Cheers.

I`ve used most of them ie GetRight,Star Downloader, Lightning Download,DAP,etc and the two I like the most were Download Express free download here has no spyware etc, and Fresh Download.

The great thing about Download Express is it`s a small download that`s free with no spyware etc and is excellent on stability,I`ve yet to have any problems with it,also has a nice interface.

Update: Well I've tried a number of the suggestions in this thread but I've eventually settled on Download Mage which costs $20 to register, I know I said I wanted freeware but none of the free ones seemed to work particularly well so I've got the next best thing...

So what makes Download Mage good?

* Works with Firebird
* Works silently (i.e. I can press Copy to DLMage in the browser and it starts to queue/download without asking more questions)
* It takes up about 1-3Mb of RAM depending on queue size (Leechget frequently took over 17Mb!)
* Resumes and can follow redirects correctly (for some reason may download managers I've tried get stuck when trying to download off sites which check the referer information)
* I don't come home from work and find the queue stuck because the remote web server was busy at one point (seems to often be the case with Leechget)

Cheers for all the suggestions though :)

Firebird's DL manager isn't sufficient? The only problem I see with it is that you can't quit FB and resume a download later.
