Decent CPU for this board?

My sister sent me a care package in the form of her PC, which I'd handed down to her a couple of years ago. It's loaded with adware and stuff she doesn't know how to fix and was getting slower by the minute. I'm going to install WinXP, but thought that while I was at it I ought to upgrade some components.

At the moment the machine has an Athlon 750 chip. I don't have the motherboard manual any longer, so would anyone know what the highest rated CPU I could put in is, and what socket type it would be? Thanks much.

Oh, and her graphics card is a GeForce2 MX-200 (cue laughtrack), so if you know of a GPU that would make a difference without breaking the bank......

so, thats an easy question ;) the maximum cpu this board will take is an AthlonXP2100+ or a Duron1300. but u need at least the board version 1.05 (take a closer look at the biard) and the biosversion 1007. Read the full story at http://www.asus.com.tw/support...upport/cpusupport.aspx

and concerning graphics: id suggest to buy an old geforce 4 4200ti at ebay or whereever...for about...dunno 40$ or on radeon 9600, similiar speed and price.

Hey, thanks. I didn't notice that link you provided anywhere on Asus's homepage. Exactly what I needed. I'll get sniffing for a 9600 now...
