The "impression"? Just who exactly makes the decisions about what windows versions are good enough?

The answer is: The guy who signs the checks. He/she does not have to use outdated software so doesn't have a clue what the newer operating systems will do for them.

I guess I was just thinking about the home user, or someone else who is close enough to the systems to evaluate them. But still, it should be the end user (or sys admin) who makes the decision, not microsoft.

Very informative article, thanks for sharing.

Hard to believe, but i've seen for myself many companies that are still running Windows 95 machines. The machines themselves are somewhat slow, and have that somewhat faded beige mid-90's PC look to them, so at least the outsides match the insides, hehe

I think a couple of things keeping them going are familiarity (people are simply used to working on these machines) and cost (no upgrade on the software/hardware front makes accountants happy).

Edit: On that note, i'm positive that these companies will drive the same operating systems for another ten years if they can. Only a huge, network wide compatability issue or some other mandate from God would change that.
