In case you didn't realize it, yesterday was the memorial of the deaths of 14 Canadian female engineering students, which occured in Quebec in 1989. I just wanted to make people aware of this horrible event, and to perhaps have a late moment of silence for these women.

December 6th Memorial
What is December 6th? A Day to Remember
December 6 is a day to join together to recognize violence against women and to make a commitment to safety for the girls and women in the community.
A day to remember the 14 young women students who were murdered at L'Ecole Poytechnique in Montreal because they were women.
A day to remember and honour all the women who have died by violence.
A day to remember and honor the girls and women who live with violence.
A day to take action to stop violence against girls and women.
What was The Montreal Massacre?
December 6th 1989 was the second last day of classes for students of the University of Montreal's Ecole Polytechnique. A small class of 60 Engineering students entered Room 303, ready to learn, and ready to graduate in a few short months. A young man, age 25, entered the classroom a few minutes past five, common practice by many students. Giving a shy first impression, he quietly interrupted the professor in mid-lecture. Then he ordered the women to move to one side of the room and the men to leave. Students laughed, this had to be a joke, right?
WRONG
The young man quickly pulled out a semiautomatic rifle and fired two shots into the ceiling. After ordering the men to leave one last time he shouted to the women, "You're all a bunch of feminists, and I hate feminists." One of the brave women tried to reason with the gunman. He opened fire.
Six of the women in the room were shot dead. The gunman continued his rampage throughout building, stalking the classrooms, the corridors, and the cafeteria, leaving a trail of death and injury in his shadow. In total he gunned down 27 people - 14 of which were left dead. Finally, he turned on himself, blowing off the top of his skull with one, quick shot.
Of the 13 injured, 9 were women, 4 were men. Other than the gunman himself, all the dead were women.
