my brother used to have the visa buxx card, which is a debit card for teenagers before they went out of business. then we got the citi cash card, which also went out of business. whenever i order something off the internet i have to bug my mom for her credit card. im only 13, but it comes in handy a lot. i was wondering if anyone's heard of something like this. we dont want any percentage rate or monthly fees. thanks.

Just have her open a bank account that has a visa check card. Or you can try those american express gift cards

I don't think you can use a debit card to order anything off the internet anyway ...

Sure you can. Just treat it like a credit card. Works fine.

I got my debit card at 15. My parents trusted me enough that I wouldn't abuse it. Now that I am 19, I can't imagine living without it. If you want to get someone younger to get one, the parent would have to open an account. Some banks do it, some won'.

If your parent opens a joint account they can put a card in your name...
They'd have to be kind of crazy to give a 13-year-old a debit card.
Maybe if there's serious overdraft protection and like $100 in the account.

Just have someone send you a WebCert.

I've sent a few to minors and they work just fine for online ordering.

You get a real genuine 16 digit MasterCard credit card # issued.
Your name.
Your billing address.
Your shipping address.
It even includes the 3 digit security code on the back.

Also most major banks such as Bank of America and Fleet offer gift cards. The benefit is these are real physical cc's but you probably have to wait for snail mail time.

If you're only going to do online ordering go with WebCert.

Pardon my ignorance please ... but I never knew you could use a debit card online (now I'm interested, lmao). Is this only for Visa, Mastercard and AmEX debit cards? I'm up in Canada and have a PC Financial debit card but I doubt that would work online...any insight?

this was exactly like a credit card. i got a mastercard mailed to me, it had my name on it, i had a 16 digit code, all that. the only difference is, this had a balance. i wouldnt get a bill at the end of the month, i just couldnt spend more than my balance. i used it online and in stores. plus, my mom had it automated where every 2 weeks it would add my allowance off her credit card. she liked that because she never had to remember when to give us allowance or anything.

bubbadu- what kind of card do you have?
Pepsi90919- i didnt mean they went out of business, they just didnt continue with the kid's cards.

Actually as far as I know, you can't. You can with a check card though.

here in canada every store (well, 95% here in ontario at least) has a "debit machine" and with this machine and a persons "banking card" they can put in the appropriate pin and such and pay for their purchases at the store directly from their bank account.

you can't use them online though. it would be stupid to because you have no protection like you do with a credit card.

I refuse to give financial advice to a 13 year old. You should be outside playing or riding your bike or something.

But I will say this, you will not find a card that a 13 year old can sign up with without parents cosigning, because under most state's laws you are not bound to a contract because you are a minor. Companies will not take that risk.

Open a checking account (you and your parent(s) signs up), ask for a Visa debit card with the checking account (they will only issue one in your parents name, you are a minor). Then, have fun using this debit card for online purchases - putting your parents name on the billing address instead of yours.

You are 13. You aren't allowed to talk to your elders like that. Go play counterstrike.
