How plausible is this?

Not sure if this belongs in P&N or more of an off topic issue. kinda figured it would get out to the masses much quicker in OT. personally, this is a pretty fucked up issue. I don't want a damn card for every stinking place that I purchase from. Should this issue pass, I will go back to cash only for all services.

I don't have anymore information on it, other than what was presented to me by the bank so I would like to hear the opposing side's view of thing, and how it would positively impact me financially should this pass.

Mods, if you feel this is more P&N then by all means please move it.

Indians have no problems getting iPads. Aren't we like the richest minority in the U.S. now or something?

If Congress or laws factor heavy into the topic at hand, P&N would serve the topic better.

I've been getting emails about this from USAA asking us to petition our reps to get it removed. Apparently, it's already been ammended out of the bill.

Cancel your order or your card?

That red dot gives you away.

Are we? I would have thought Asians (Chinese, Japanese) were the richest. Although, lately when I drive through the Indian areas in Queens, a lot of people have nice homes with really nice cars out front.

explain. why would i want to use credit card for purchases such as groceries when it could be taken out of my bank directly?

Debit card have less protections than credit cards, furthermore, credit cards are a 30 day interest free loan, and even better you get rewards points.

Also, with many credit card companies their online tools track and organize your spending so you know what you're buying, I've never seen that with a debit card.

I have right now over $200 worth of rewards points sitting in my various credit cards. That's free money. I pay no interest on these cards and it organizes my spending.

Earn points, get money back.

Exactly. Just use your credit card as a debit card and pay it off full each month. You get the benefits of better credit and reward points and cash back, and the only drawback is you have to make one lump payment each month instead of automatically taking out of your account.

I agree about the drawback. It is much easier to see your spending account go down than the debt you owe go up. It is psychological.

Also, down with the Avalanche! (Live near Detroit :p)

If I can afford something with cash, I don't care to use credit.
I can afford everything I buy with CC, but I choose to a) get cash back by running everything through a CC, b) I like the added warranty I get from using the CC, and c) I never maintain a balance as I use cash to pay 100% of the CC bill in advance.

If you consider who is raping who in my relationship with my creditors ...

I don't have that kind of card unfortunately. I probably won't be able to get one anytime soon either.

If credit is an issue, I would rather pay with cash. Once your debt card gets stolen, thieves have access to your bank account, as opposed to just a credit card account. I keep my checking account info super private, that's my piggy bank. I only even write checks to other banks or my once a year rent payment.

That doesn't make it not a good reason to use credit. Being in a situation like this generally means poor decisions were made somewhere down the line.

Good point. I'll keep that in mind. I have found that I use my debit card for ALOT of stuff that would be less accessible has I just kept cash in my wallet instead and buy what I could afford and not go over budget. Think I'm going to have to revise how I do my purchases.

I have two Amex cards and a Discover and various Visas.

Just this last month, I got $35 back in Cashback rewards on my Discover card alone for purchasing within their Shop Discover network.

My Amex card has nearly 12,000 rewards points on it and I haven't even had it for a year yet.

Same here. In the 8+ years I've had credit cards I:

- Open a 0% card when I could use one (to allow time to pay off large purchases)
- Pay off the balance on the 0% card before the 0% period expires
- Everything I know I can easily afford goes on my card that I try to earn points on

Has worked out very well. I've yet to pay a penny in CC interest, and just recently took out $250 in gift certificates on my points card so I can buy me some goodies :)

Keep in mind though, as much as we make off them, simply using their card to do the purchases makes the CC company money. They definitely have incentive and come out on top.

and you would be correct in assuming so. what I am now is a product of irresponsible spending 10 years ago. Some of my bad habits are still around and I'm fighting everyday to try to get better financially. but that's a bit off topic.
