Debian StartX Problem

I just installed Bonzai Linux which is a clone of Debian. Seems like the install went well and it did see my Video Card Matrox G400.
After loging in I typed startx and got a error message that it couldnt find mga_HAL. Also the message stated that it found Screens but
they were not configurable. I think mga_hal refers to my video card but not to sure what screens not configurabe means.

Yeah there's this weird issue with matrox cards (g400 anyways), I don't really understand it. The mga hal is, as I understand it, some sort of proprietary firmware that lets the card run at full capacity. Without it, you're restricted to lower video modes and whatnot. Anyways, all I know is, grab the mga drivers tarball from here:

<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="ftp://ftp.matrox.com/pub/mga/archive/linux/2003/">ftp://ftp.matrox.com/pub/mga/archive/linux/2003/</a>

Untar it and find mga_hal_drv.o for the closest match to your version of XFree. Stick it in /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/ .

voila!

Well, I tried a few different versions of mga_hal_drv.0 and Debians version of XFree is 4.1.0.1 and I added
a ver 4.1.0 which was the closest I found. Still getting the error message about Screens not Configurable.
