I have tried Suse, Redhat,Slackware,Mandrake, Bestlinux,Winlinux and only slackware was fast and easy to reconfigure everything manually...

Depends on how fluent in Linux you are, it's not as easy as RedHat or Mandrake, but I don't think it's particularly hard either.

Potato contains some pretty old software, if you want more current you should get 'woody' which is slated for official release really soon.

You seem to have more experience with linux than I do. I can install Debian no problem, it should be a piece of cake for you. I too would reccomend woody. I am just installing it on my own system as I type this (from another machine of course).. I'm doing the net install which is real nice, so all the packages are currently being downloaded to the machine... looks like I got a slower mirror so it's taking over 3 hours. Still though, if you don't want to do a net install you can just download all the ISO's and do it that way.
When you do the setup, choose "simple" install, configure your apt sources and get everything else you need w/ apt.
I'm not sure how big it is to do a full setup, but the "simple" setup that I mentioned doesn't take up much space, I have done that setup on some really small < 800 meg hard drives. (if I remember correctly)

smp :

you said something about ISOs......
When I asked how many MB it is I mean the Installation Disk.

I start downloading potato from the debian ftp server and it came to be more 700MBs and still going
more but I had to stop it cause I was going out of hdd

Do you know where I can find those ISO;s Discs ??

cheers..

what ???

woody is 8 discs ????

or am I looking on the wrong site ?

is debian a fast linux or something like Suse , heavy and slow ?

i doubt there are any big differences between the two speedwise. X and KDE/Gnome are not suse, and they are not linux. you can install them on any distro and slow it down to your hearts content 😉
