Debian help needed

I just converted one WinXP64 box to Debian 4.0 amd64. It's been a few years since I played with Linux and I need some help.

I installed the Boinc-client and -manager. The project won't run because the version is too old.

I downloaded these two files from debian.org:

/var/cache/apt/archives/boinc-client_5.10.8-1_amd64.deb
/var/cache/apt/archives/boinc-manager_5.10.8-1_amd64.deb

I need to replace the 5.4 versions with these versions. I can't get it to work.

What did you try to do with those files and what errors did you get? From what I can tell those are from unstable so adding them to stable might not be that simple since there were some pretty big updates in unstable within the past few months after etch's release.

Thanks, Nothinman!

I contacted one of the developers and that is what he said.

So, I guess this topic is closed.

I personally prefer to run sid anyway because it keeps things up to date without forcing me to dist-upgrade with every new release, although if you're considering this I'd hold off for another week or so if I were you because a major PAM upgrade just hit sid and it might take a few releases to get the bugs shaken out.
