Debating between PCP&C 750W Silencer and Cosair HX 620w

Here's the jist of it:

I've used PC Power & Cooling before and have been nothing but pleased w/ them, but I must admit that as highly as it is rated 9not to mention the extra juice), the lack of modular cabling is a downer.

I'll be running a Q6600 on an IP35 Pro board, mildly OC'd, with 4Gig of Corsair XMS DDR2 RAM, 3 HDD's, and a 8800GTX along side a 7900GT for 3 monitors.

I would think that both should allow for plenty of power and both are HIGHLY rated, but I guess it comes down to modular cabling (and more connections) or more power for about a $20 difference.

Any and all feedback or thoughts would be appreciated.

how are they within $20 of each other? I bought my hx 620 for $127 AR, but I've since seen them as low as $100. What's the best you can find the pcp&c unit for?

If noise is of any concern the Corsair would be quieter. Now I've never had a silencer but I've heard they aren't silent, definitely quieter than the turbo-cools (duh!) but not silent.

My HX620 is silent.

This TechReport article seems to indicate that the PCP Silencer is just as quiet.

Even JonnyGURU has made the statemetn numerous times that the word - QUIET-- can only in the end truly be defined by the person listening to the PSU!!!

QUIET in and of itself is relative.

Peace!!

why are we using exclamation points!!!! My hx 620 and hx 520 are both absolutely quiet. As in, so quiet that I can't hear them even if only one case fan is running at a time (yes I've tested it). With the $30 + diff in price I think that it's a no-brainer to get the hx620.

Yoda, I have to say your punctuation leaves a lot to be desired. It would be nice to see some sensible logical reasoning that doesn't include quick 1 second judgements. There's plenty to be argued that could be presented in an agreeable method.

To the OP: Your system is pretty high powered, but I doubt it would hit over 450W. Considering that'll leave you plenty of overhead to the corsair 620W (which is secretly better than 620w), I don't see the need for the 750 unless you plan on adding 100-200 more watts to your system somehow...

I've Had a 750 Quad for a week or two now, and I don't hear a peep out of it. I hear the other fans in my case more, and they're pretty quiet. I just changed cases from a P-180B to the 900. I don't overclock anything, and I do a fair amount of gaming so not sure how much the PS gets pushed. So far though, it's been one quiet PS. I just need to do a case mod to hide some of the rats nest.

what speed do you have your case fans set on? my case with fans on medium is loud enough to mask most good psu's unless under extreme duress and certainly more than enough to mask my hx 520. I have my 620 in some no-name case with 4 80mm fans in various locations, and as I mentioned earlier it is impossible to hear the 620 even with only 1 case fan turned on.

all beit a good PSU.....by far in what ways compared to th Silencer 750??

120mm fan vs 80mm fan for cooling. HX620 is made by SeaSonic, known for silence. I don't trust silence and cooling out of an 80mm fan. Modular vs non-modular.

All the case fans in my 900 are on low speed, and I have a fan mounted in the side panel. The computer is very quiet overall.

Next weekend If I have the time I will probably drill all the holes etc. in the case to hide all those wires. I'm sure I will be thinking about how much easier things would be with a modular design :D

Albeit i understand what your saying.
I agree 120 mm would sem to be the preference.
yet Industrial Quality PSU`s such as Zippy and PC Power & Cooling and there are 2 other brands that slip my mind all continue to use 80 mm fans or there about......

Zippy even uses the smaller fan in there latest model for gamers....

As long as there is adequate ventilation and airflow what size fan really is`nt an issue unless your into quiet!!

peace!!

Who makes the PC P&C Silencers? I'll give you a hint: it ends in eaSonic.

Fair enough, SeaSonic probably knows nothing about designing quiet power supplies, huh?

"PC Power & Cooling has been using Seasonic to manufacture the Silencer power supply line for about 5 years. Seasonic is known for building high-quality units and has an excellent reputation in the power supply industry. It is important to note however that PC Power & Cooling does not re-label products as many do (Seasonic has no product of their own similar to the Silencer 750). PC Power & Cooling actually designs their PSUs and owns the tooling, printed circuit boards (their name is on them), safety certifications, etc., along with all other product rights. Seasonic (and others) are simply contracted to build the PSUs to PC Power & Cooling's demanding specifications."

No, SeaSonic had nothing to do with the design of that line.
