Ouch.

edit: I wasn't sure what was going on at first.

Girl read a love letter or something and doesn't feel the same way as the writer.

""Any place that you enter, beware of approaching the women. No place in which that is done prospers. There is no wisdom in it. A thousand good men are turned aside from their own good beacuse of a little moment, like a dream, by tasting which death is reached."

That's a great quote... who said it?

Letters are never a good idea. You feel awkward when you finally see them again - what do you say? "So, what'd ya think?".

I once got the same reaction... but it was over the phone. I couldn't believe I actually told her right then and there. I was moping around for a week afterward. We actually are still friends though. ;) It sucked then... but hey, I'm engaged now.

Its from The Instruction of Ptah-Hotep, a document written by the vizier of a 5th Dynasty pharoah to instruct the vizier's son to the proper conduct of life as a high level Egyptian official. i had to read an excerpt from it, which contained this quote, last night for my history class...

That is almost as bad as the "You are a really nice guy" line.

i think you mean "You are a really nice guy, but..." It's almost a guarantee that your balls will shrivel up into your body after hearing that one..

girls, let's hear you out on this one.

it seems that most girls that become friends with guys usually wind up bitching to the guys that the other guys they go out with are jerks, in one way or another. so why is it when the nice guys ask them out the girls "kindly" refuse? and are surprised?

sorry to be the one to shock you, but friendships are almost always based on one of two things: common interests or attraction. if the guy you're friends with has nothing in common with you, guess what? he likes you. also, try to never say something like, "oh, if only i could find a guy like you," even if you mean it, 'cause what you really say is "oh, if only i could find a guy like you but cuter." :)

when you meet a girl you like
dont try to be her friend
compliment her
flirt with her
ask her on dates (just doing stuff alone together)
call her
mack her. mack her. mack her.
make her know that you like her.
dont even for a second let the friend thought enter her mind.

if you are friends with a girl then realise you want to date her:
compliment her
flirt with her
make her feel special
call her
dont talk to her about her boy problems
stop being her friend and start mackin her.

oh and try to make her feel like she is lucky that you are macking on her.
like shes special or something.

thats the one that gets me.

oh and this line "its not very often i meet someone as smart and beautiful as you"

that makes girls think "omg, he noticed im smart, he must really like me"

its a good trick to get girls into bed.

As long as they are not laughing and pointing. That is a bad mix.

Thanks for the girls-101 eakers, but I'm not exactly a newbie at this. I don't claim to be an expert either, but I didn't jump into this with a blindfold. It just didn't turn out as I expected.

I was more looking for some sympathy or similar stories. The "awww hunny" in your first post pretty much accomplished that :)

I really don't play the 'let's get her in bed' game. If you randomly select 100 (probably asian) girls, only one of them would really get along with me. It's hard to find that one. This girl WAS one. That's why this hurts more than some random hottie of which there are a thousand walking around campus.

This wasn't a situation where I was her friend and I dropped a bombshell unexpectedly. The situation was a LOT different than that.

On a completely unrelated side note about hotties, I just got back from clubbing and I saw what I consider to be dancing that has reached new levels:

guy A starts grinding with girl B
guy A puts his hands on girl B's hips
girl B takes guys hands with hers (still grinding) and pulls them away as if to say 'no, don't do that'
girl B pauses for a second on that thought and then moves guy A's hands onto her breasts and squeezes... guy A's hands stay there

Maybe that actually happens a lot? But I've never, ever seen that before in my experience... and I pay close attention...
