Death Sentence

There's always the issue with nailing the wrong person. Also, it's soooo 1800's. I think we should be above this sort of thing in 2005.

Instead, prison should be made far, far tougher. Chain gangs breaking rocks, less interaction with other prisoners (many crims go into jail as fairly minor criminals then meet loads of contacts and learn much in jail. They come out far harder, more dangerous and more knowledgeable. Prison does all the wrong things) forced education, etc etc.

Unfortunately the stupid US human right BS has come over to the UK and now you simply can't do anything to anyone without getting screwed over in the courts.
IIRC, one inmate managed to successfully sue for not being given access to porn.

Utter BS.

I say hard labor, eight hours a day, five days a week. Then education for the remaining two days. It should be staggered such that no two inmates see each other more than once every week, less if possible. Prison should be a nightmare, not some health club (as one inmate describes it) so that people would really think twice about doing that crime.

Capital punishment: too dated, not tough enough, lowering to the levels of the criminal. Not cool.
 
I to think Prision should be harder. Thats the problem, prisioners think its a walk in the park and then when they get out, dont know how to live without it, so they go back in. if you touch a suspect in the slighets of wrong ways boom there out!! THATS bull sh!t. now i am not saying beet the he!! out of them but come on now! we truly breading Stronger, Faster, Smarter, more dangerious criminals. we are not reforming them, we are making it easer to do the things that got them int here in the first place!!
 
Totally against the death sentence for everyone.

Would I feel angered if someone killed my wife or parents, sister, etc? Sure... I'd probably stab 'em in the neck. However, the government and courts have no place to take the life of someone.

I always thought they should feed them high caloric and fatty foods in jail. Tons of it. And take away the physical activies and weights. People come out of jail all built up and angry as fvck just to go stab and shoot more people. Screw that. Make them into fat tubbies for preventative measures 😀
 
I think that the death penalty ishould be based on on horrific a crime is. For example, A guy is in a bar gets in a fight with a guy and kills him should be manslaughter. A serial killer or a terroist they should be fried.

I believe in capital punishment, but only on the basis that it's safer for society to bury an unredeemable soul than to chance letting him out on the streets.
I don't believe the death penalty is any deterrent to crime whatsoever.
Most murders happen in the heat of the moment. When someone is in a homicidal rage, their mental condition is not such that they're going to stop what they're doing for a little "reasoning party".
Conversely, I think an "eye for an eye" justice system works fabulously. I don't think it should be implemented because it's so barbaric.
Society is a complex mumfvcker. It'd be tough to have to be the guy that's gotta make it all work.

Last but not least...
I think county jails are an absolute joke. They do not serve as a deterrent and offer zero rehabilitation. Those that actually do benefit from incarceration in those facilities could be punished in a much less expensive fashion (i.e. hit em in their pocketbook).
For the rest it's nothing more than a revolving door day party. It's a reward. A safe place with three hots and a cot. A real escape from the rigors of a life that they incapable of managing.

yes, i am fully for it, unless its the states fault, then theres a problem, but you have to consider that we are "Detering" the masses so enevitably we will sacurfice a few inacents!

But should'nt a person who willfully takes the life of another person forfeit his own? And if the goverments and courts don't have the right to take the life of someone should they have the right to imprison them as well? If you think about it they are somewhat similar. Also what about the taxpayers who face the burden of paying to house these criminals? Should a person who lost family members as a result of some scumbag still have to see some of his money going to feed and shelter that criminal?


I don't have any hard figures but I'm willing to bet the cost to imprison criminals is astronomical. First you have to pay for the cost of the lawyer, the courts time and the judges time as well. That's even before the jail time starts. The cost to build a prison is likely very expensive, espcially considering you can't build a prison just anywhere. Then you need to pay the wardens, prison guards, cooks, maintenance staff and lots of other people as well. Then you have to feed the criminals, ensure they have clothing to wear, provide rehabilitation programs, etc, etc.. Before long that adds up to large sums of money. And then to make it worse because the murderer was never sentenced to death there's always the possibility he can get out on good behavior and kill someone else.

I won't even get into the issue of how most criminals don't feel deterred to not commit crimes because they know they have extremely good odds of eventually getting back on the streets.
 
I believe in the death sentence only if they are able to 100% prove the criminal is guilty. However, it is almost impossible to prove any criminal 100% guilty. Thus, I don't really believe in the death penalty.
 
This belongs in P & N, but yes, I agree with it. However, I don't really see the point. We end up paying more for them because of legal fees, and it's an easier way out than having to rot in prison for the rest of your life. If someone killed a member of my family, I'd want them to rot in prison, not die outright.
