I like the idea, but what if you're a passenger in a car? You should still be allowed to text and/or talk on the phone. Most states are hard-up for cash these days - just dramatically increase the fine for texting/talking on the phone while driving. $1000 for a first offense is a good start.

Fuck no. I won't even drink water while driving unless i'm completely stopped at a red light. Text n Drivers are 100x worse than people who drive and talk on the cell phone.

In my hometown a month or so back an off duty sheriff rolled her car like 20 times and died while texting.

ok a surgeon might be a little clueless, but a sheriff? They REALLY should know not to text while driving.
