Death by Bangle; Spin Around Town: 2002 BMW 745i

See, it's not so bad:

This system kept us quite flat even through aggressive cornering, which was a little mind-blowing. In most sedans of this size, we'd expect all sorts of lateral acceleration during sporty driving. Combine this with the fact that the new 7's steering feels nearly as responsive as that of the much-lauded steering of the 3 Series, and you've got a 4,376-pound sedan that feels like a 3,200-pound coupe. Outstanding.

Eat my sig!

So how much does this cost?

And uh..how much would it cost to repair/replace the whole iDrive system should it fail or malfunction some years down the road?

Man I don't think I'm intellectually capable of using this device though.

To quote Edmunds:

"Satisfied that the 745i fit the bill as a driver's car, we turned our attention to the controversial iDrive. Critics of the electronic system say it's too complicated and too technical and will be above the capabilities of many drivers. To this, we say "p'shaw." If you can operate a word processing program, such as Microsoft Word, you can operate iDrive."

I guess you don't know how to use MS Word! I played with iDrive at Hank Aaron BMW for a few minutes. Seemed intuitive, though I still wonder if it takes the driver's eyes off the road too much.

You are correct about maintaining the car, though. It's like taking a machine 100x more complex than the space shuttle to your local BMW dealer.

Here's a list of known, common problems with the car (from roadfly.com):

1) Remote control doesn't work from a distance, you need to be ON TOP of the car in order for it to work. Just not acceptable.

2) Ticks/Lines on speedometer do not match MPH intervals like they do in the US Brochure

3) Country in the Navigation menu says 'Vereinigte Staaten' instead of 'United States'

4) Car preference memory still can't be programmed by dealers! (Daytime running lights, autolock doors, pathway lighting, etc)

You mean to say they already have problems?

And when was the new 7-series released? I did not realize it already is out in the market.

Some owners of 745i BMWs produced before January 11 are having these problems. E65 went on sale in the US on January 14.
