Dear Santa...

That thing is fast! Not sure what I would cut if I had one. In the comments, the owner of the page says they cost around 1mil. Think you could use it to cut bread or fruits?

I'll think about it.

DHS is cracking down on my shop ever since idiots started shining green lasers at planes.
- Santa

One fast cutter. I like seeing the flashes of brilliant blue.

Don't worry about DHS or BCP. Mr. Assange will take care of that. 😉

Dear Little Girl,
We have received your request for the fantastic laser apparatus. Unfortunately, such magnanimous gifts are reserved for those with exemplary nice:naughty ratio. My analysts report that a few small kind acts are all that you need to raise your nice:naughty level.
If I may suggest, I'm sure any Terzos you might know would appreciate macaroni pictures. Oh, and those paper plates that you glue together but put beans inside so when you shake them they make rattling noises. And decorate their exterior with patterns of glue and sparkles so that they will be pleasing to look at!
Best wishes to you on your Christmas endeavors.
Sincerely yours,
Saint "Santa Claus" Nicholas.

Haha well if "He sees you when you're sleeping" applies you'd know it would not be a problem. 😛

nice clean cuts, really tiny kerf

so is the $1million for just the laser or laser + the positioning hardware? does it need gas to blow out the molten metal or is that just the laser by itself?

I don't think it needs co2 or anything.. that's what the turning is for right?

That price usually is for the table which includes the laser, power supply and typical ancillary hardware for laser and CNC operations. Most heads do have purge gas. This is not to be confused with lasing gas which in most cases is CO2.

Hell yeah, I'll take one as long as I don't have to pay for it. I'd be juuust a bit short on cash to buy one.

Nice! I'd settle for a similar setup that's made with a CO2 laser for etching glass.

I think a lot of people at work would get nervous if they heard that the engineering department was playing with lasers that could burn things.

I've seen quite a few laser cutting setups at trade shows, I've never seen one being used in a shop. Are there any consumables? Any drawbacks? I'm surprised at how thick the stock was from the first cut. Most of the laser cutters I've seen were always cutting .030" stock to show them off.

Yes the chief consumable is gas - CO2. 😀

Lower powered systems <100W can have hard sealed tubes like Synrad.

I don't know of any kilowatt systems that aren't flowing.
