The insurance companies RAPE on kids like me! Sheesh, 1,483 dollars for six months, split into four payments. It's insane i tell you! What was your rate when you guys first got your license/car?
/this is with a 91 CRX btw. Do you think it'll go up when i get my 95 GTI VR6 (in a several months time, depending when the '04 Mercedes are released)?
Another friend just told me she only pays 900 dollars for full coverage! She's 18 as well, but she's been driving for no more than two years. Is this even possible?

See Ultima, this relates back to the car being owned by my brother. It's his toy car--he lent it to me since i won't be getting the gti vr6 until the new Mercedes are out. He's always wanted another crx to toy around with and i believe good condition crx's are hard to find nowadays. THAT is why he told me to get full coverage. If it was my car i'd surely go liability!
And coupled with the fact that i'm a new driver (and a new stick driver).

For the money you're paying, you could just buy yourself a decent old car for a grand and save thousands on insurance. Let him keep his "toy".
edit: Or keep paying.. I guess you won't have to wait THAT long?

Yeah, my other friend seems to have the same price. What's your insurance company?Originally posted by: rbloedow I only pay 900 every 6 months, I'm an 18 year old male, and drive a 1998 Nissan 200sx (it's a coupe). Looks like you need to find another insurance company.
American National - they has the best rates I have ever seen. None of the MAJOR competitors liek Geico, Progressive, State Farm, etc can beat them. http://www.anpac.com/[/q
I just tried retreiving a quote from them, and it was 1700 dollars!
My quote was $1,116.50 with a 97 Grand Am.
Had a speeding ticket about 2 years ago and that was it.
Edit: OMG!!! Without the speeding ticket on my record I get a quote of $741.50
That speeding ticket cost a lot more then the $85 I paid 2 years ago!! :Q:Q:Q:Q

Yeah, it'll only be until the end of the year. My friend told me when preordered Mercedes usually come out near the end of the year. Anyways, by then i'll have the gti vr6. With that car, valued at around 5k, liability would be fine, right?
Btw, what happens if you cancel your insurance after six months? Any fees incurred?

Dood you should make your bro pay for it if he wants full on it. You mentioned your friend paying 900 for full - how many miles away does she live? Zip code can make a huge difference (it's like 1500 liability only for me on a 88 Accord, a friend who lives about 25 miles from me pays $99 a month, full coverage on a 02 Civic)

Which is why you should always contest them.At the very most you'll have to pay the fine which you have to do anyways if you don't contest.

Go liability only on a cheap car. I have it only on my sentra but full on the maxima. It will shave a TON of money off your insurance. The con, of course, is that if you get in an accident and you were at fault your insurance company won't cover the cost of your car. However that may make you drive a little safer and considering the car is only worth $2k you can catch up reasonably quickly on saved insurance money anyhow. Many people think it's a waste of time getting full coverage on a cheap car. You'd think that full coverage would be really cheap because the car is worth so little but it doesn't seem to work that way for some reason. Ditch the full!Originally posted by: erikiksaz

I suggest calling at least 4-5 places to get quotes. If you don't, you could be spending hundreds of dollars extra....In addition, I wouldn't get full coverage on that car. What's its value, anyways?
The value of that car is 2-3k MAX, assuming it's in good condition. The only thing i know is that it'll turn into a can if i ever get into an accident :Q
I've asked my bro in the past if i should just get liability, but he said i should stick with full coverage. What are the pros/cons of this anyways?
