The insurance companies RAPE on kids like me! Sheesh, 1,483 dollars for six months, split into four payments. It's insane i tell you! What was your rate when you guys first got your license/car?

/this is with a 91 CRX btw. Do you think it'll go up when i get my 95 GTI VR6 (in a several months time, depending when the '04 Mercedes are released)?

Another friend just told me she only pays 900 dollars for full coverage! She's 18 as well, but she's been driving for no more than two years. Is this even possible?

I feel your pain.

Eastern Ontario = Insurance rape.

I pay $260/mo on a 1991 Accord EX-R.

ouch...I don't know how much mine is, exactly, since the parents pay it, but my name's on a 92 Caravan, so it's pretty low :) (That, and I'm 21 now...doesn't make that much of a difference, but still, clean record is nice)

Wow, and the CRX is typically a low-cost insurance vehicle (I have a coworker who has both a '93 CRX and a '02 Jetta 1.8T--he says the Jetta insurance is like more than 2x that of the CRX!!)

I only pay 900 every 6 months, I'm an 18 year old male, and drive a 1998 Nissan 200sx (it's a coupe). Looks like you need to find another insurance company.

ANd as far as females getting cheaper insurance, that's starting to come to an end in these times. My sister has the same insurance company as I do, same amount of coverage, she is 17, and drives a 1997 Dodge Intrepid - she pays around $950 every 6 months.

We both have squeeky clean records by the way, along with driving school/good student discounts.

Yeah, under 25 = rapage for insurance. For a while (When i was around 22) i was paying 400 a month for a Ford Taurus. I was like WTF?!
But now? Around 800 every 6 months, 2 vehicles full coverage.
Also, females ahve lower insurance costs then males as well.

Yeah, my other friend seems to have the same price. What's your insurance company?

American National - they has the best rates I have ever seen. None of the MAJOR competitors liek Geico, Progressive, State Farm, etc can beat them. http://www.anpac.com/

I'm almost 21, and though I have had a car since I turned 19, I have never been able to drive it (except around the block every now and again to try to keep it from going bad). I can't afford the insurance.

I hope to this year though :)

When I first started driving in 96 I think it was I was paying 110 a month for full coverage on my 86 accord. Fast forward 5 years, 1 accident, and about 5 tickets later and I'm paying 240 a month for full on my 00 Si. Just last month my ins dropped from 230 a month to like 134. I've still got the hard on I got when I found that out. Everything drops of my record (about 3 more tickets) by the end of the year so I ought to have pretty good rates by christmas :D I'm 22 now btw. Just have to keep looking forward to when I turn 25 and my rates are uber low.

Once I turned 25 mine dropped to 700 every 6 months. This is uber-full coverage on a 2000 Durango, too.

You just need to wait till you get older.

I just tried retreiving a quote from them, and it was 1700 dollars!

WTF do you think?! Chances are it will go up significantly. Assuming you shopped around and have no accidents not much you can do. When under 25 rates are high. When under 18 rates are REALLY high!

It's possible with your friend. Women get cheaper insurance early and sometimes people do get lucky. Perhaps she's under her parents or something as well.

I suggest calling at least 4-5 places to get quotes. If you don't, you could be spending hundreds of dollars extra....In addition, I wouldn't get full coverage on that car. What's its value, anyways?

91 was the last year of the CRX (at least in the USA).

wtf you're getting reemed really bad there! you're paying over $5k CAN per year for insurance on an old pos crx? even if you're only a teenager you still should be paying far less than that. The car is 12 years old, is not a sports car, and wasn't an expensive car to begin with and probably isn't worth more than $1k.

look for a different insurance company for sure. :p

The value of that car is 2-3k MAX, assuming it's in good condition. The only thing i know is that it'll turn into a can if i ever get into an accident :Q

I've asked my bro in the past if i should just get liability, but he said i should stick with full coverage. What are the pros/cons of this anyways?

Go liability only on a cheap car. I have it only on my sentra but full on the maxima. It will shave a TON of money off your insurance. The con, of course, is that if you get in an accident and you were at fault your insurance company won't cover the cost of your car. However that may make you drive a little safer and considering the car is only worth $2k you can catch up reasonably quickly on saved insurance money anyhow. Many people think it's a waste of time getting full coverage on a cheap car. You'd think that full coverage would be really cheap because the car is worth so little but it doesn't seem to work that way for some reason. Ditch the full!

But, the only thing is that it's my brother's toy car. He bought one that was in good condition so that he could fix it up later on (no ricer comments, he doesn't want it to "look fast") Anyways, it's a loaner car for now. My sister can't give me her gti vr6 until the new '04 Mercedes are released, since she's buying one.

ohwell full coverage it is! But I think that GTI is going to screw you hard on insurance.
