I devote several hours a week to volunteering at a local youth organisation. If I were to be paid what I earn at work, it would work out at over $200 per week, every week.
Some token $100 is nothing, especially since the kid above is apparantly loaded.
The above reminds me of celebrities that splash out $1000 to some charity, then spend $10,000 on shoes for themselves... It's a PR thing to make them feel better about themselves, and hardly a sacrifice.
Of course every little helps for the charities, so I guess everyone's a winner... the charities get a small donation and the person providing the donation feels a lot better about himself. Awesome.

Hey man, for the past 7 years I've donated my time at my former highschool's hamper drive, and my family donates over $100,000 to Vancouver General Hospital, The Canadian Cancer Society and the Lupus Society (because my mom has lupus).
But I want to do something on my own.

There you go again! 😛 j/k. Donations are always a good thing. I usually spread my donations throughout the year instead of one lump sum.

Ironically, most domestics aren't domestic, so you'll be ignoring Nik's xenophobic advice as well. That's what's called a Win-Win situation!

It's hardly xenophobic, Trollnose. I'd much rather see my own country taken care of before the rest of the world. Call me lots of other things, but I'm hardly afraid or contemptuous; I just value people in my own community more than I do some no-name-face in another country.
