Ya know, This stuff is all market driven.....
I was comparing my current build (Antec 3000B) with a couple of other cases here.
The 3000B is only 18" tall w/ 4/2 externals and 5 internal 3.5'.
Dell 4100 mini tower has 2/2 externals and 2 internal 3.5 and is only 1 inch shorter.
I have an old Antec ATX case (not sure the model#) that is 2.5" taller w/ 3/2 internals and 3 internals. (no exhaust fan 😀)
Of late, more is better for the enthusiast community and that is who Antec listens to.
Heck, they even fixed the only complaint that SPCR had about the 3000B before mine was built. (front fan mount)
Most of the cases with less mounting locations are made by primarily oem manufacturers.
For such a big operation Antec really has done a remarkable job keeping up with the needs and wants of the enthusiast community. I sell their cases and power supplies exclusively.
My complain comes from that of a computer business owner -- I want a stylish case for my high end systems, and I like Antec because I can buy them through all the major distributors, but I still only like to keep one optical drive for simplicities sake.
Two drives and then next thing you know you have a customer with outdated firmware that needs to flash their drive they flash the wrong one and now they have to send the damn thing in.
I do think the "simple case" would be an interesting and innovative idea for Antec to consider.
I want Apple looks, uber high quality and substantial but not too big (think the G5), one optical drive, two hard drive bays and room for an ATX motherboard. Simple, roomy and stylish. I bet there would be some interest in a case like this if they made it.
