Awwwww, CNN apologizes for overhyping and overplaying the Dean Scream:

2-8-2004 CNN Says It Overplayed Dean's Iowa Scream

NEW YORK - It probably means little now to Howard Dean, but CNN's top executive believes his network overplayed the infamous clip of Dean's "scream" after the Iowa caucuses.

Cable and broadcast news networks aired Dean's Iowa exclamation 633 times ? and that doesn't include local news or talk shows ? in the four days after

Virtually overnight, the "I Have a Scream" speech became legend.

the event helped accelerate Dean's decline ? "not so much showing the speech again and again, as the kind of collective wisdom that suggested that it was extremely damaging and, to a degree, became a self-fulfilling prophecy."

The lesson for the media in cases like this is to be aware of its own impact,

Still, politicians and newsmakers had better get used to a lightning-fast media world.

"They'll just do it again," O'Brien said. "The toothpaste is out of the tube. This is the world we're in now."

2-8-2004 Dean tries the MoveOn Ad Choice Campaign

3 different Supporters produced an Ad for Dean to air.

Asks supporters to choose which Ad will air in Wisconsin:

Link:

Vote on your Ad for America

Beginning Tuesday, we're going on the air in Wisconsin with an ad independently created, directed, and produced by grassroots supporters.

No campaign has ever tried this. But your campaign -- with its unprecedented pool of talented and committed supporters -- can pull it off.

So which ad will it be?

1st thing: WORST. ADS. EVER.
I didn't learn a single thing from those ads except for the fact that they're John Doe's who thinks everyone but Dean sucks.

2nd thing: I can't believe that the candidate at #2 on the ranks is even considering dropping out of the race. Thats pretty pathetic

3rd thing: Never have I seen the downfall of an innocent politician (an oxymoron, I know) brought on so harshly by the media, much less CNN. But when you're born from the Internet, the Internet can bring you down as well.

He did it to himself; running on a "we hate Bush" only carries you so far, sir. He tapped the 'angry voter' well, but it just wasn't deep enough to carry him to pay dirt.

Glad I don't watch (much) TV so I don't have to endure those ads.

FYI, I watch about 2 hours per week of broadcast TV.

CAD must be estatic, his favorite Candidate is back:

2-9-2004 Dean Will Battle Kerry For Nomination

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Democrat Howard Dean said on Monday even if he loses Wisconsin's Feb. 17 primary he will remain in the race for his party's 2004 presidential nomination.

Asked if he would drop out if he lost Wisconsin as he had said he would just last week, Dean said, "No." Asked if he was in it for the long haul, he said, "Yup."

He later told a reporter that people who had urged him to stay in the race had convinced him to fight on.

With $1.1 million in contributions raised in recent days, Dean planned to begin airing on Monday a biographical ad in Wisconsin that basically helps reintroduce him to voters.

The spot describes Dean as a former family doctor and Vermont governor who has taken on special interests on behalf of average Americans, and is now ready to take on Bush.

Good luck - he's going to need it.

Oh no, it's plenty deep. Dean's problem is being ahead of his time. He spoke up against Bush when the other spineless Dems would not. They were afraid to go after a popular President in a time of conflict (if not all-out war). Once they realized Dean's message was selling well, they adopted it too. It no longer differentiated Dean from the others and Dean's bobbles began taking their toll.

Bow:

I agree.

But, something else. The AHNOLD effect. Americans do not like being told the truth. That's why AHNOLD was elected. He made FUZZIES and BUZZIES. That's what Edwards is so good at. Kerry less so. But Dean has no FUZZIES (but a few BUZZIES). So, women and Southerners in particular find it hard to relate to Dean. Dean has a strong male leadership style that can be very grating. He is straight-forward and assertive. Cocky even. That just doesn't fly in the South and with women, and with a lot of Americans. Running for President IS a popularity contest, sorry to say. And not much different in that respect than running for homecoming queen. 🙂
