The $100.00 back was from essential.com (QWEST) and is long gone however they have a $25.00 back deal and great 5.9/cents a minute deal. I've used them for 7 months with no problems. Even though I hate AT&T as a company, I did just (2 days ago) switch back to them for a 50.00 Gift Certificate and 120 minutes free Long distance for the first month. As soon as my first month is over I'm leaving them again!!! Try this link Text for this deal.

Well, this has been posted before, but if you make a lot of LD calls it is almost a no brainer. www.Talk.com is 7 cents a minute (kind of steep) but they will match whatever you spend in online gift certificates - Amazon and GiftCertificates.com are the two most useful. Can't beat that IMO. (I make a LOT of ld calls, so it's a great deal.)

Thank you, dirtrat! I love playing these companies off of one another. I'll do Essential one month, then AT&T the next. I got a $50 Blockbuster gift certificate offer from Sprint today (sorry, no web address), so maybe I'll do that one too. (The only problem is using it up quickly!)

What I want to know is after leaving esential.com (Qwest) and going to AT&T for one month, will I be able to go back to Qwest and get a $25.00 bonus for signing up again?

personally if I make a lot of long long distance calls I'll just use a prepaid phone card. There's a bunch out there with connection fees of 50cents or so and then 1 cent/minute thereafter. The quality is pretty good.
for the ultra cheap way to do it, just look around for some of those free internet phone to phone web sites. There's a couple out there that let you make pc to phone or phone to phone calls for free and the quality is acceptable.
pcworld has a comparison of some free pc to phone sites
pcworld review
hottelephone.com for example lets you make calls to 30 countries

$50 for switching to Essential/QWest
No monthly fee.
5.9 cents/min
Minimum 6 month committment
Billed to your credit card every month NOT your local Ma Bell phone bill.

$50 Amazon GC switching to AT&T

ValueConsumer.com phone deals (LOTS OF 'EM)

DVDTalk Other Bargains thread

My personal favorites are the ones which offer cold hard cash or a credit to your phone bill. Usually AT&T will call and dangle a $100 in front of you to switch back.

Lately MCI has been calling me offering me 10,000 free frequent flier miles with the possibility to earn about another 40,000 United frequent flier miles. I personally hate MCI as a long distance company but who knows you even have to use your land lines long distance company? Just use BigZoo.com which offers 3.6 cents per minute domestic long distance with no monthly fee.

No upfront money here but the lowest "real" long distance rates around. 1+ and toll free calling from 4.5 cents per minute with calls carried over traditional phone lines insted of the internet like most other low priced services.

http://ld.net/1plus/?fcmi

for lowest rate to Turkey I found this:

33.7 cents per minute http://unitelagent.com/main.cgi?fcmi

...or go here for 17 cents a minute to Turkey with a 10 minute minimum per call http://www.worldxchange.com/products.asp?sp=1&p=c4l

Hope this helps :)

Has anyone quit essential after the required 6 months and came back later to cash in on the $50.00 offer? I got the $100.00 offer from before but am curious if the will let me do this again.

spec411 - You're welcome, great thread idea by the way I hope it gets used and posted to a lot. We need central resources like this thread, it's indeed a hot deal.

dirtrat - Good question I'm sure that some enterprising/cunning deal addict here has tried joining Essential/Qwest then leaving after 6 months only to resign up again.

If they havn't then I'm going to in a few weeks. BTW I signed up for the AT&T deal for the $50.00 Super certificate 3 days ago but they still have not contacted me to verify the switch and no sign of any gift certificate. Maybe they are just behind. If I sign up for the $50.00 at essential and they don't honor it then I assume I'm not obligated to the 6 months with them.

Good idea, Spec and good find on the Valueconsumer link, Rossman.

If you sign up for MCI, you get 6 free Blockbuster movie or game rentals, plus 1 free rental for every $25 you spend each month
There is a $50 Blockbuster GC deal with MCI. If you don't get the offer by mail, you can call in and try to get it.

I would rather switch every couple of months, instead of a 6 month commitment with Essential.com.

Thought I would give this a bump. I finally got my $50.00 GC and 120 free long Distance minutes for signing up with AT&T. As soon as those minutes are gone I'm looking to sign up with someone else. Does anyone know of any new offers yet besides the ones already posted here?

I think my 6 month committment with QWest/Essential for my free $100 is over with now.

Does anyone know if this $50 Amazon GC for switching to AT&T is still valid?
