how you getting 45k from edmunds? I'm seeing 37k also for trade in value. what options am i missing.

I don't even get to the point of discussing the price of a new vehicle before a trade-in value has been settled on. I go to all the local dealers for the vehicle I want, and stick with the one that offers the best price.

That said, I will be so happy to start leasing now that I moved closer, and never worry about trade in values again.

I just ran the price again 42,856.

The x5 has about every option available.
M sport package, comfort package, climate package.
It was the closest to the highest optioned out car. I mentioned it to the dealer and unfortunately kbb doesn't seem to recognize these packages.

Also we got a price down on the new rx450h. Working on the trade in now....

I gave this dealership a chance, another dealership is giving me a good deal with the possibility of looking into a higher price for a trade in (they wanted 37k, mentioned nada etc...)

Sell the X5?

Yup! It might be worth the hassle.

We're going a high regarded dealership Sunday. I've been in close contact with them, I have the pricing down, just working on the trade. Their offer for the trade is much higher than 34k the other dealership offered but I think we can manage a little more. They will at least take Nada and Edmunds in consideration when they appraise the car in person.

you're either gonna get screwed on trade in or purchase price. just sell it yourself or see what carmax will give you...

With the rx450h selling right under from msrp, I can see myself having wiggle room in the trade in value. The guy in the email was a complete dick, I emailed him back, bcc the managers email address I found on their website.

Trade in values are always lower than the websites or private party. You already know that, otherwise you'd sell it yourself. Dealers base their price on the average auction value.

You parents X5 is going to be hauled off to auction and sold. The dealer is just hoping to break even.

It's possible the used car manager may see your X5 and want it, but guess what he's not going to pay more than? That's right, auction value.

In the end, the dealer is going to maintain their margins. If you want a high trade in value, you'll pay more for the car and have higher financing costs.

If you want the best deal, sell the X5 yourself and negotiate the lowest price for the Lexus.

The other problem is you're not a serious buyer. Hiding behind a computer screen telling other people how much they should pay you for a vehicle they've never seen is cowardly. What you'll find if you go visit these three dealerships is that the deals are all going to be very similar in the end.

Private party is higher than the trade in. I'm using the average trade in figure.

I don't get it, edmunds true market value on here is highly regarded. I'm using their average value of a trade in for the x5, which is now $42,xxx. Clean retail is over 50,000
