Dealership wont honor coupon for oil change...

So for whatever reason I was on the local VW dealer site and ran across a "coupon" they're offering seen here: VW of NPR

First one says Synthetic oil change 29.95, I'm thinking "shit I can't even buy the stuff my self for that cheap." So I schedule an appointment for yesterday AM, and when I get there the asst. service manager tells me "Oh sorry it isn't for your car, it's for a synthetic blend oil, the high mileage types." My car needs a certain weight oil either 0w40 or 5w40. Now, nowhere on there does it say it's only for certain oils it says synthetic on there, not blend, not high mileage nothing just synthetic. Sure, it says some models might be slightly higher, but for my car it would be $98 bucks! That isn't slightly, it's exponentially higher.

There are no exclusions on the coupon except for age, only 2008 and older, my car is a 98 so I clearly meet that requirement. Do I have any course of action? I just want them to honor their coupon, that's it no more.

It's not going to be worth your time to pursue it. Just don't give them your business.

You could always pollute their Facebook page and Twitter feed with complaints. First, though, I would try to get ahold of the dealership general manager (who should be the service manager's boss), and complain. Who knows, they might honor it after all, since negative publicity is a LOT cheaper than the good publicity they'd like to get from you!

Send a complaint to the manger of the place and VW corporate. Other than that not much.
That and also here...

I'll shoot them an email a bit later, I need to go pick up a pressure washer to clean my patio, but yea that may work.

A slimy VW dealer... NOOOOO. That would never happen. ;)

Yea I know, right? Oddly enough the PARTS Manager was absolutely fantastic to deal with last week, he helped me out with finding the right part numbers when I had no intention to buy, plus he gave me some 8mm nuts I needed to mount my new seats, free of charge.

I'll try contacting them later today to see what happens.

Quit being greedy and trying to abuse the system. I mean shit, if there are no exclusions other than age then I'll bring my 2007 Bugatti in and they better change that oil for $29.99.

You're basically a scammer.

And you're a troll.

The coupon is very clear and does have exclusions. Did you even read it?

Yes, and per the OP a veyron should fit the bill. It's made by volkswagen. It's older than 2008.

I want a veyron oil change for $29.99 (or slightly higher) or I'm going to sue and complain on facebook.

I agree that it's worded poorly. But there's no way to do a full synthetic oil change for $30 nowadays. OP even said so himself. All he's trying to do is abuse a typo/poor wording situation to scam from a legit business owner.

Honestly, there is still probably a margin for the dealership at 29.99. They pay a lot less for synthetic (in bulk) and they pay very little for an OEM filter. Sure the labor might be a write-down, but they wrote the coupon...

I don't think it's a 'scam' at all. I would file a complaint with VW as well. Service centers literally must get 5-star ratings from almost every customer, so a complaint is VERY bad to them. I will bet they will do what they can to rectify.

No the Veyron is not a VW, it was made by Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. which is a part of Volkswagen AG.

So no it is not a VW, its from the Bugatti name plate. Its a Bugatti Veyron, not a VW Veyron.

How about a W12 phaeton with 13 quarts of full synthetic?

You guys are the reason why a lawyer has to get involved to write up a simple oil change coupon. Like I said, I agree it could be worded better. But to say you blatantly know it's well below parts cost (let alone) labor and then act like this is dishonest.

Well the coupon didn't say it had to specifically had a VW logo did it? It just said a volkswagon vehicle. Bugatti falls under the volkswagon motor group.

OP, even if you do get the dealership to honor the coupon, how do you know they won't just put in synthetic blend out of spite?

No lawyer's need to be involved, just someone with half a brain. They could have just stated:
'2008 and older VW models including the following: Jetta, Golf, New beetle, or Passat. Other VW models only accepted at dealer discretion'.
There...simple! :)

Who says they have to make a profit on the oil change? Have you never heard of a loss leader before? They want to get you in the door so they can do add-ons and hopefully make you a regular customer where they can charge full price later.

Huh? Abuse the system? How? By getting a good deal on an oil change? How the hell is that abusing the system? I didn't print the coupon, they did and if the coupon said 5w30 weight synthetic only, I would not have even bothered, because I know that isn't the right oil for my car.

FYI Bugatti might fall under the VW umbrella, but it's a Bugatti product, not VW.

One, I didn't mention sue stop making things up, the last thing I do would be sue over 30 bucks. You're acting childish.
I'm so grateful there are people like you in the world who clearly know what my intentions are, you're awesome. I wasn't trying to abuse anything, I read the coupon and thought damn that's a great deal lets get an oil change done there. Besides, how the FUCK is it abusing the situation when they clearly CAN do a 5w30 syn-blend oil change at $30 for other cars? Are they abusing it to? Your thought process makes no sense.

OP, even if you do get the dealership to honor the coupon, how do you know they won't just put in synthetic blend out of spite?

I should have mentioned it in the OP, but even the asst. service manager seemed to be on my side about the coupon being worded poorly, he actually was really nice about the whole thing.

Yea, it does include a free multi-point inspection, so they can upsell the crap out of you.

I'd not go to that dealership anymore, personally. The place where my GF bought her Sonic sent out a letter about some kind of free oil change and so she went in to redeem it. Turns out, it was a notice about receiving on in the future for certain cars she didn't even qualify for. The manager said "Eh, no problem. We'll still honor it." Go to a different place and post on the dealer's FB how crappy they were acting.

I have only owned one VW in my entire life and it was a total POS. I only owned it for 2 months but that was 2 months of misery. VW will never get another dime of my money. I'd rather drive a Chrysler. :cringe:

Most coupons from car places I've seen will say "synthetic blend". If theirs don't I would complain to the general manager and to corporate and probably put in $.02 on social networks just to get back...but you will probably not get a pure synthetic oil change for $29.

It's the same thing as an incorrect sale in some print ad.

"Sir, we screwed up. If you get an oil change here, we will have screwed up again. Don't get an oil change here."

Agreed. Honestly I wouldn't try to force them into honoring the deal. You never know what will happen to your car when they work on it. Dealerships don't allow customers to observe on the shop floor, after all.

I agree its not worth it for the time and trouble to make them honor the coupon. Just take your business elsewhere but make sure the manager pr even the owner knows what has happened.
