Dealership required for maintenance on leased vehicles?

I'm leasing a 2007 Toyota Matrix and have to bring it in for scheduled maintenance. That's not a big deal, obviously, but if I can get the work it needs done on it at a place that charges less than the dealership/official Toyota service center/etc. would Toyota care?

I believe that I could be under violation of my lease for taking the car to another place besides an official service center, but I'm not sure.

Anybody know the scoop there? Thanks!

I changed the oil on my leased Crossfire without any problem at turn in. I did save receipts and purchased filters from the dealership to show proof of a change, just in case. Unless it stipulates in your lease contract, which is always good to read, that you must take it to the dealership for routine service, then you are fine taking it wherever. I do know you are required to service the vehicle at the various intervals and if the vehicle is damaged you are required to have it inspected and repaired by a dealer approved facility.

I have never heard of that, but a bad dealer may add that to their contract for lease.

If you do any work on it yourself or another shop make sure you save the reciept and you should be ok.

No one can tell you that without reading your lease contract... Read It and if it doesn't specifically state that as a requirement you are not required to take it to the dealer. Toyota does in fact require you maintain receipts if you do it yourself, and it makes sense to do this for yourself.
