Dealer on Hot Deals

There is a thread in Hot Deals that appears to be a dealer link. It's titled "ADVERTISEMENT: Weekly Specials from PC Club!
" Link.

It's locked, but it seems pinned to the top. It's been edited by a moderator and posted by someone named "AnandTech Deals".

What's the deal? This appears to be a blatant dealer promotion and I don't even see hot deals at the site.

<< It's been edited by a moderator >>

= It's Anandtech sponsored (and/or) a moderator has seen it so it's ok.

AnandTech Deals is legit. In the same way that the crucial memory deal was ~5% extra off, I imagine you'll see similar discounts at the link(s) provided. Some marginally better prices, negotiated through the Anandtech site.

Depending on the "value" of the deal/advertisement, it could be argued that subscribers shouldn't "have to look" at the ad posts. Just a thought, as I don't really have a problem with it.

It's titled "ADVERTISEMENT" because that's what it is. It's an advertisement.

AnandTech Deals is a forum service where retailers can list special deals for members of the forum.

I believe that the retailer has to pay for this service and that there are only a limited number of listings at any given time.

So there's a double-standard regarding the "No dealers and no SPAM...allowed!" rule? Nice. Expecially considering that the "Advertisements" aren't even hot deals.

I'm still waiting to hear an official statement from Anandtech.

I don't think that's the case at all. The AT main page, as well as the forums (non-subscribers), has ad banners that is considered "advertising" by most people. I see no "dealer" charactersitics or SPAM from the AnandTech Deals post. Not to mention the subject clearly specifies what's inside the thread. I see plenty of "this weeks staples/OD/OM/Frys specials" posted by members on a regular basis. Why not complain about those as well?

If YOU don't think something is a hot deal, no problem, just move on to something else. It's not that difficult.

No, doofus. The advertisements are PAID or otherwise negotiated with AnandTech. The No dealers and no SPAM rule refers to folks that post their own stuff in order to get free advertising.
