Personally I never found a compelling reason to use those miniCD's. Hence I decided to spend the extra $$ on the Pioneer slot-loader. Fastest blasted spin-up I've ever encountered. But this drive is a bit less expensive I believe - still an amazing price for a drive of this quality.

I'd expected my Dell LiteOn all week, but still no package when I arrived home tonight. Not a sign of the email acknowledgement in my e-box, either, and I could swear I'd view an Ack'.

Cursed for awhile, then recalled my habit of copying orders' screen images into Draft email that I leave in Outlook Express. Sure enough it was there. Low and behold, it was NOT an Ack page, however: there was another #$%^& CONTINUE button on the bottom I hadn't seen. I'd abandoned it one Click from completion. :Q

Checking my Cart on Dell... there it was. Sigh... Old age... this is the second order I've scrogged that way in the past month. :disgust:

Well, the good news is they dropped the price ~$3 right after I ordered, so I still save a few pennies today -- not getting quite the 15%+lowest price combination, but $43.xx ain't bad.

Others missing their Order may want to re-check their Carts... naw... I'm the only one this daft.... Wot's next???

Ordered mine Tuesday night... received the 2 emails about 15-20 minutes after placing it. I received the tracking number Thursday morning, but UPS hadn't updated their system yet... Well, about 11am this morning, I hear the doorbell ring, but go back to sleep... Then, about 30 minutes later I think "Hm.. that couldn't be...". So, I go downstairs and see the stupid UPS "will come back Monday" note... ARGH!!!!

BTW, the UPS tracking number finally started showing info on my package about an hour ago... WTF?!?!? They finally give me tracking information >after< an attempted delivery? Guess the fact that it was sent out and shipped to the same city made things weird:

That's when they sent mine. Got it at 11 AM this morning just like you. Tracking info on UPS (or tracking # from Dell) didn't show up until this afternoon.

I guess they delivered it to us Bay Area folk faster than they could update anything.

just got mine today! clonecd says that the revision is 1028. Is this the newest firmware? there's only one firmware on www.liteonit.com for the 163D which is the model that shipped to me. BTW what's the difference between the 163 and the 163D?

I just got mine. I see that they changed the box, but the contents are still the same. I did notice the marking on the drive is now LTD-163D when the older style box drives were LTD-163. I also had a Cendyne (rebadged liteon) and it was marked LTD-163D. I had thought that the "D" was for the rebadging, but now I think it might have something to do with when the drive was made. Maybe the newer Liteon's are the "D" model?

I bought two drives....the first one was a 163D and made in Jan 2002.

The second drive was a 163 and was made in Feb 2002.

the sound mine produces is barely noticable on spin-up and completely silent (to my ears) the rest of the duty cycle. great drive, great deal!

I tried the program myself before I put it on the site and it worked. I wouldnt put a program that destroys peoples dvd drive on this site. I got so many deals from this site.

Mine got here today, even though Dell showed a ship date of 3/28....

I installed one just like it in a new machine and it's working really well. It is a bit louder than I expected, but the case is up on a table, so the drive is right next to my left ear. Probably would be just fine in a regular desktop configuration.
