Do you know where I could find the Dell Inspiron 4150SE?

After reading not-so-great reviews of the 2650 I think I'd rather get the 4150.

The 4150SE comes w/ the 16MB DDR version of the ATI Radeon 7500. If you want the 32MB version, you have to goto the normal 4150 and goto "Customize" instead of "Featured Systems".

I wonder if the video card in the 4150 is user upgradeable.....anyone know?

Also, if you don't need the 4150SE's CD-RW/DVD combo drive, I've seen them being sold on eBay for well over $250.

Can anyone comment on the quality of Dell Laptops?

I'm debating on whether or not to extend my warranty past 1 year. I've been known to sell of laptops on eBay rather quickly, so I'm not really leaning towards it. But, I'd like to know what others think.

yes, Dell 4150 is better than the 2650. The only thing that I hate about the offer is it comes only with the XGA screen. I want the SXGA screen.

other than that, Dell 4150 is a pretty good choice

The 4150SE comes w/ an XGA. If you configure a regular 4150 from scratch, you can get a SXGA or UXGA display.

edit Ack, you must get at least a 1.8GHz CPU and Office XP to get the SXGA :(

stingbandel - I haven't really researched the Dell i4150 that much, why would you say it's better than the i2650?

Here are two positive Dell Inspiron 4150 reviews:

C|Net.com

ZDNet.com

Almost all the reviews say "thin, fast and light" which is great but it seems the two major gripes are:
1) LCD resolution.
2) Only 1 USB port (which is probably USB 1.1 not the new USB 2.0)

I just wish the 4150 was as cheap as the 2650 and came with a 24x CD-RW/DVD although I'd probably rarely ever use this.

So far the 4150 looks like a winner.

Just ordered:

Dell Insprion 4150

P4 1.7GHz

14.1" XGA TFT

32MB DDR ATI Radeon 7500

256MB DDR RAM

40GB 5400RPM HD

24X CD-ROM

WinXP Home and MS Works Suite

1YR Warranty (decided against 3 year, because I'll probably sell the sucker within a year )

After 10% off + 10% off (one time use code....thanks Lars) + $100 rebate = grand total $1190

Yeah! Now I can stop drooling over laptop deals! :D

iamme - Nice setup, I'm glad you finally pulled the trigger and bought a 4150 instead of the 2650.

I know you said CD-RW/DVD combo drives can be found on eBay for around $250, do you know how much DVD drives for the 4150 are? If it's a significant discount like $100 I might just buy a DVD instead of a combo. I'll never get rid of my desktop, a laptop is merely there to compliment (read as TOY) my desktop not to replace it.

iamme - Also regarding the warranty I hope you paid for your laptop with a major VISA, MasterCard or Amex credit card because most of them offer 1 extra year of warranty protection for FREE. Which cc did you use?

Bummer it appears that they don't offer this, weird. 1 year of extended warranty for FREE would be great. If I buy this it will be with my CostCo Amex or Alaska Airlines/BOFA VISA cc.

Even better if you have an Amex Gold card you could save an additional 5% off, I think it's stackable with the 10% off coupon!

Since Inspiron DVD drives are selling for around $100 on eBay and Dell charges only $49, I think I'd get the DVD for an extra $49 from Dell rather than buying one for $100 from eBay.

Also is the modular floppy drive worth the extra $20? Even if I don't use it, how much could I sell it for on eBay?

If you remove the $20 modular floppy drive, what kind of drives fit into that empty bay?

I could not combine both the 10% off coupon and the 5% Amex discount. A few weeks back I could.

That would really suck if you cannot combine the Amex Gold 5% off and 10% off coupons!

A savings of 5% off $1,470 (before 10% and $300 MIR) is $73.50 that's a huge chunk!
